I used Exsultate Justi from Empire of the Sun in my wedding. (the closer)
Padmaraga Speilberg not only directed that movie but he also played on the original score. He loved the theme as well but thought that it shouldn’t be ‘perfect’ so he joined the clairnet section.
I do like the ATOC light saber battle music and the asteriod chase runs through my mind a lot as I weave my way down a crowded NYC street.
I immediately thought of that swell of music when you first see the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. I can still get tinglies just from listening to it.
Midway March was also great, and he did a piece (at least I think it was him) for a movie called “The Cowboy And The Girl” that was brilliant and difficult. I can’t remember a note of it, but I remember that it sounded wonderful and was a bitch to play.
(My director in high school favored John Williams. We played a Star Wars suite for graduation and he wore a Darth Vader helmet when we performed it in our home auditorium.)
Although Anakin’s theme was pretty forgettable for me, the way it segued very briefly into a slow version of the Imperial March was neat.
