I couldn’t have said it better.
Easily the best song on the album.
My next faves:
Good Times, Bad Times
Fool in the Rain
&
Stairway
I like Gallows Pole, but I like the remake on the Page & Plant album better. Fucking love that version.

Rock and Roll: Bonham would’ve been the first to tell you it was a direct lift from Little Richard’s Keep a Knockin’: Little Richard - Keep a Knockin - YouTube
Yeah but when the guitars come in on “Rock and Roll” the energy just shoots through the roof!
Having just recently watched Thor kicking ass to the strains of “Immigrant Song,” that’s my pick at the moment. Part of me is almost ashamed to admit that such an incredibly on-the-nose musical selection worked so well, but when that battle started up, I was all over that shit! I also would like to give some love to “Travelling Riverside Blues.” It’s mostly because rock radio hasn’t completely pounded the life out of it.
Kashmir by far
Ramble On for me. That bassline and the percussion (whatever it was).
No love for “Living Loving Maid?”
I can’t pick just one fave Zep tune, that’s impossible.
Just thought I’d mention one that hasn’t been mentioned yet
This is a tough one, because you could almost break it down into a bunch of different categories- blues, rockabilly, ballad, folk, prog/experimental, metal… and have several solid candidates for each. My favorite overall would have to be “Rock and Roll”, just the perfect encapsulating song of the genre, with each member of the band playing in their tight but loose groove masterfully.
For the blues side- When the Levee Breaks (wailing/ powerful/ wrought with anguish) and How Many More Times (that nasty bass drop that rollicks the song back to life) share the honors, followed closely by Traveling Riverside Blues (great little riff, JPJ working, and some little nastiness in the lyrics)
Rockabilly- Rock and Roll, followed by Hot Dog (I actually love this song, as well as Boogie with Stu)
Ballad- Going to California, but man Tangerine is a great song
Folk- Gallow’s Pole and Bron-Yr-Stomp
Prog/ Experimental- Kashmir, but the Rain Song, Fool in the Rain, and Carouselambra
Hard Rock/ Metal- Whole Lotta’ Love and Black Dog for me, followed closely by Good Times/ Bad Times… every time I hear GTBT, I just think of what it was like to be about 14 years old, having heard about LZ, but never heard LZ, putting on that album with some stereo headphones on, and being introduced to Zeppelin with that nasty intro
I’ve been a huge Led Zep fan since first getting into them as a teen (late '80’s). I recently bought all of their remastered albums on CD (released 2015 - 2016).
It’s hard to pick a favorite song, but one of my favorites is definitely “Houses of the Holy”, from their Physical Graffiti album (1975). It’s worth noting that the HOTH was supposedly scheduled to be released on the album of the same name (1973), but they didn’t have room?!, so they instead released it on PG.
I have a hard time choosing between “Kashmir” and “Battle of Evermore”, love them both. “Stairway”, despite the extreme overplay, is sitll one of my favorites too. Also love “In My Time of Dying”.
I already picked earlier in the thread but if I may be permitted a number two (ha! get it?:p) I’d go with a really good Peter Grant early morning super loud splatterhea after a night of Baby Duck and Limgurger, Chateaubriand, garlic pudding, Port, mozarella-coated brussel sprout casserole, truffles, jalapeno-stuffed mushrooms, Cognac, Bacardi, fish and chips, Tanqueray and grenadine, cornish hen, Absinthe, haggis, Malibu, Grand Marnier, foie gras, and 2 Subway pulled-pork 12" subs.
My choice also. To me it really nailed that whole rock thing.
Yes. Followed by “What is and What Should Never Be”.
Black Dog
What do I get for winning the thread?
