Favorite "little" jokes in movies?

It’s a brussels sprout, and a coal box.

In Chicken Run I missed the 'Engines can’t take any more of this" the first time I watched it.

I remember HBO doing a promo video at one point that showed each malaprop–funniest video. Little Carmine had the best.

More from Chicken Run:

  • When the aircraft is about to take off, there is a cry of “Chocks away!” as the wheel chocks are pulled away. Which are triangular Toblerone boxes - literal chocs.

  • At one point the chickens are using a produce crate labelled “Stephenson’s Roquette” as a test vehicle on rails. Roquette/rocket is another name for arugula, but Stephenson’s Rocket was something else entirely.

Being a compulsive reader of end credits, I caught this one when I saw it on its initial release.

Speaking of credits the Naked Gun 33 1/3 has many jokes in their credits but the one that always made me laugh is:

YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE: WILL THE OWNER OF A BLUE HONDA ACCORD, LIC.# Z2W435, PLEASE REPORT TO THE PARKING LOT. YOUR LIGHTS ARE ON. THANK YOU.

I don’t get it?

That’s a hallmark of the ZAZ movies - Airplane, Top Secret, the three Naked Gun movies, etc. all have some wacky stuff scattered in the credits.

In the definitely not ZAZ Airplane II while trying to guide the crippled moon shuttle, Ted is dismayed to find out he’ll be talking with Buck Murdock. Elaine asks him who Buck Murdock is.

“He was in my squad at Macho Grande.”
Elaine, surprised: “And he survived?”

That notice appeared in every single showing of the movie everywhere in the country. How many of them do you figure there was an Accord in the parking lot with its lights on?

Don’t remember which film this was, possibly “The Wrong Trousers” but there is a jar on a shelf in W & G’s kitchen labelled “Middle Aged Spread”

Another one in the latest W&G (Vengeance Most Fowl) that won’t mean anything outside the UK - there’s a TV newsreader called Anton Deck (there’s a duo of light entertainment presenters called Ant and Dec; the movie also has a pushy reporter called Onya Doorstep)

And if memory serves, when the getaway canal barge (! - maximum speed 4mph) crosses the border between Lancashire and Yorkshire there’s a sign saying “No Parkin

And yet more: Gromit’s vinyl collection now includes Walkies On The Wild Side, and his bedside reading is A Room Of One’s Own by Virginia Woof.

Aardman continues with the subtle jokes: in their latest Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, there a quick shot of a magazine cover: Gardening of the Galaxy.

Another from Wallace and Gromit, A close shave:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MovieDetails/comments/ejd4pe/in_wallace_and_gromit_a_close_shave_1995_gromit/

Gromit is framed and sentenced to Prison.

Gromit is reading Crime and Punishment by Fido Dogstoyevsky as opposed to Fyodor Dostoevsky.

Also: Feathers, the evil penguin from “The Wrong Trousers” left his name engraved on the cell wall, and it is a “Penguin classic” book with a small image of Feathers in the book spine.

…butter pie??

:butter: :pie:

“The butter wouldn’t melt, so I put it in the pie”

Favorite “little jokes” in rock-‘n’-roll

There was an Australian series called the Games that had an investigative journalist in one episode named Jack Hughes.

If they were kind, Z2W435 wouldn’t have matched the format for licenses when the movie came out.

Virtually every format exists somewhere on the planet. If it was obviously fake it wouldn’t be near as funny.

For the next four years, every phone number in a TV show or a movie should be 202-456-1414.

Well, any blue Honda Accord owners who didn’t remember their license numbers would have to wonder, just a little.
