Labdad, not only do you make good chili, but your musical tastes are impeccable.
High praise indeed, my friend! Thanks!
If you’re ever in Atlanta, let me know - we’ll have a bowl of red and listen to some tunes!
Only two live albums that I really like -
Nazareth: Snaz (includes a shout-out to Rick Danko)
Bob Seger: Live Bullet
Peter Gabriel Plays Live… “I Go Swimming” is a gem…
Gott im himmel! How could I have forgotten Under a Blood Red Sky?
Yes, it does have I Zimbra on it. However, it is really the live part of Big Business (a song from a solo Byrne album) that I want - I just can’t help but get happy feet when I listen to it. At least that is included on the DVD, even if it is in a different aspect ratio and just an add on. It was ‘in’ the VHS version, but not the theatrical release.
Frampton Comes Alive
Sleepy Buildings The Gathering
Living in Clip Ani Difranco
A Radical Recital Rasputina
I have to second Kohuept.
I want to add Meat loaf - Live around the World
**
Van Halen - Right Here, Right Now**
and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band - Live 1975-1985, even though it is not from one concert, but is taken from different performances over a 10 year span. It gives a good chronological representation of what a live E Street performance sounds like.
Warren Zevon ~~ Stand in the Fire
AC/DC - Live at Castle Donnington, double album.
Judas Priest - Priest…Live!
Oh my gosh, someone here knows “Bootleg”.
I didn’t know for years how much of that intro to “White Noise” was borrowed from E. Van Halen, stylistically. I do like that album. I’ll have to go find it somewhere. I’d gone and gotten I think the first 5 Resurrection Band albums on CD. That would pretty much complete the collection for me. I don’t know their later stuff.
Small Town Romance - Richard Thompson
Deliverin’ - Poco
Everybody’s in Showbiz - The Kinks (half of it’s live)
Live at Leeds - The Who
Not an entirely live album, but the title cut of Jackson Browne’s Running on Empty kicks ass.
UFO - Strangers in the Night
Ted Nugent - Double Live Gonzo
Frank Zappa - Tinseltown Rebellion
Saga - In Transit
Rush - Exit…Stage Left
This one, particularly “Biko”, and Dire Straits Alchemy.
I didn’t know Meat Loaf has a live album. Must buy it NOW!!
As far as the Springsteen live collection, I love all the songs but it bugs me that it is for the most part in chronological order. So albums are all grouped together and if I wanted to hear them I would listen to the studio album. But I guess that’s what CD shuffle is for now that I replaced my cassette tapes.
Deep Purple, “Made In Japan”.
Bless It’s Pointed Little Head - Jefferson Airplane
The box set Jefferson Airplane Loves You also contains an terrific live set.
“Babylon by Bus” by Bob Marley and also Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds acoustic live CD set.
Just recently I bought Matt Nathanson’s “At the Point” and it was worth the money, mostly since it doesn’t sound like a regular live cd, but more like a regular cd with little bits of talk inbetween songs.
Brendon Small
If we are going for concerts instead of groups, how about The Monterey International Pop Festival. featuring the likes of Lou Rawls, The Animals, Canned Heat, Big Brother & The Holding Company, The Butterfield Blues Band, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Otis Redding, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, The Mamas & The Papas, and many more. The ultimate live set - puts Woodstock to shame.
