Inside Lydia’s Ass
Hamlet as above, or the head and body down the toilet thing in Trainspotting.
I’ll suggest the illegal gun-buying scene in Ronin. Everything you need to know about the characters and set up is there. A very tense little short film all on its own.

I haven’t watched The Messenger (about Joan of Arc) all the way through, but I have watched the different scenes where Joan confronts her “conscience” in the form of Dustin Hoffman. If you stitched them together, from where Joan first begins to doubt herself, to where she gets on her knees and begs for the opportunity to confess, I think that’d be a pretty good short film treatment of Joan of Arc, independent of the rest of the movie. (The movie itself hasn’t gotten the greatest of reviews, I think.) It might even work as a stage play.
Well, there’s always THE DANCING CAVALIER, the movie-within-a-movie in SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN
