What a great picture of Elizabeth Taylor. I didn’t expect to see that.
My printer did a great job. Thanks.
Here’s a fave of mine,Yvonne de Carlo in a promo still from Slave Girl.
My caption: “Care for some post-coital bliss, Master?”
This portrait of Susan Hayward in Where Love Has Gone is one of the loveliest ever taken of her:
And as a big ol’ Marilyn Queen, I love this shot from Something’s Got to Give:
Well, it’s your fault. You should have told me last night!
(Slinks away- what a brain fade).
I love this one of Cary Grant, because it’s so NOT what immediately comes to mind.
And this one has always brought a smile to my face:
This pic of Bette Davis. I remember reading that, lacking photoshop, or for that matter, computers, one particular artist used to paint directly onto his negatives to get the effect he wanted. This one strikes me as a likely candidate. Sure, it’s Bette Davis, but it’s also kinda NOT Bette Davis.
For anybody interested, I just this week found a cool page on Facebook with lots of great pics. It’s called “Decaying Hollywood Mansions”. The name is a bit of a misnomer as it includes lots of pics of the stars both at their homes and apart from them. (Plus very few of the pics are of decaying mansions; given L.A. real estate prices I’d wager far more are either in excellent repair or long since demolished now than actually decaying, though I still think it was horrible they tore down Valentino’s house a few years ago.)
That looks a lot the way she looked in early pictures like Of Human Bondage.
I love the old posed publicity stills that would appear in magazines in the 30’s (no, I’m not that old, my first boyfriend was a collector and taught me a lot). Here’s one of Carole Lombard. Here’s one of my favorite’s of an young Katharine Hepburn. I don’t remember who likely took these photos, but he could really make a black and white camera sit up and beg.

Who was more beautiful than Joan Bennett?
I don’t know. Maybe it was Anita Louise.
“Let’s speak of Lamarr, that Hedy so fair.
Is it true that Joan Bennett wears all her old hair?”
They tore down Falcon Lair?! I knew Pickfair and Jaynie’s Pink Palace were demolished, but I had hoped Falcon Lair still existed.
The main house was bulldozed as it would have cost more to restore than to build something new. (I found this surprising considering Doris Duke, not known for being stingy, owned the place until her death.) A guesthouse was gutted and greatly enlarged into the house currently on the property, but other than some of the original tile flooring and style it’s totally different and modernized.
Naughty, naugty Jennie! NSFW.
Here’s some I’ve found:
Clark Gable with Marilyn Monroe (NSFW due to some mild cheekiness)
Jimmy Cagney about to be machinegunned. Apparently they used real bullets back then.
Frank Sinatra and his bride, Mia Farrow. Of which Ava Gardner cracked, “I always knew one day Frank would be caught with a boy.”
And, to be fair to Bette Davis, one of Joan Crawford from “Johnny Guitar” that she probably wished came true.
Barbara Eden did nude?!?
I believe she did just the one nip slip photo, and I don’t know that it was intentional on her part. Like a lot of young hotties of her era, she did some semi-nude photos.
Of course, there were the occasional fully nude shots of actresses prior to the Hayes Code. Here’s a young Joan Blondell fully nude. Note that her pubic hair is shaved … something you don’t generally see in vintage nudity. I am spoiler boxing the link because it is TOTALLY NSFW:
A still I adore but have never been able to find is Clark Gable from GWTW, the scene where he makes his appearance at the bottom of the staircase at Twelve Oaks. <swoon>
This one? Or a few seconds later when he has his close-up?
