Hotties from the Golden Age of Movies

There are lots of female stars of the 20s, 30s, and 40s that I have never found attractive: Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, and Betty Grable, for instance, never did much for me. But there are a few I have always found very hot.

The other night I watched Duck Soup and Horse Feathers for roughly the millionth time, but the first time in maybe a decade or more.

I had forgotten what a babe Raquel Torres was. (This picture really doesn’t do her justice, but it was the best one I could find online.) The gown she wears in the first scene of the movie is low cut, revealing, and HOT! And her accent is very charming, too.

And then I got a load of Thelma Todd in Horse Feathers. (Also not a great picture, unfortunately.) She’s not quite as voluptuous as Raquel, but still smokin’! And she spends most of the movie in a relatively revealing negligée. I like the scene in which she’s watching Chico play the piano. (The poor girl died in mysterious circumstances at the age of 30.)

Probably my all-time favorite is Carole Lombard. Beautiful, sexy, and funny! She’s just wonderful in To Be or Not To Be and My Man Godfrey. (Another life tragically cut short: only 33 when she died in a plane crash.)

Who are yours? (Pictures will help make your case.)

Rita Hayworth

The hair…

Veronica Lake. Something about her in “Sullivan’s Travels”, I know she was supposed to be the blonde vamp, but still, I found her very sexy.

** Betty Field**, another from the era.

Not Rita Hayworth, but still, something about her.

And I loved Carole Lombard in “My Man Godfrey”.

Ingrid.

Greta (who for some odd reason was the focus of a posthumous 100th birthday festivity even though her birthday isn’t until September. (Her friend Gore Vidal was the keynote speaker.)

Heartily seconded.

Me, I"m madly in love with Bogie. Classy, intelligent, sweet, and a sense of humor to boot, with a good dash of hard-boiledness thrown in. sigh They don’t make’em like that anymore.

Dig up Paulette Goddard and I’d do her. (Actually, pretty much anyone Charlie Chaplin had sex with- he was all about the hotties.)

Ditto Brigitte Helm.

Gene Tierney was pretty ridiculously hot.

Virginia Mayo

Maureen O’Hara

They don’t make 'em like that any more.

Louise Brooks.

Love that hairdo, love her looks.

Cary Grant and Gene Kelly

Sexy, Cool, and Talented.

Claudette Colbert. See : Sign of the Cross, The; Cleopatra (1934 version); It Happened One Night.

My Heartthrob

I think Irene Dunne is quite the fine lady. The final bedroom scene with her and Cary Grant in The Awful Truth is both very funny and very sexy. It’s rather sad she doesn’t get mentioned even half as much as her comedic contemporaries like Lombard and Loy.

When the heck is Theodora Goes Wild going to be released on DVD?

Tyrone Power. Prettiest man ever.

The woman who played Miss Crabtree in the Little Rascals/Our Gang series was smokin’ hot.

Ava Gardner was smokin’ back in the day.

Veronica Lake always gets me hot under the collar.

Theda Bara

Irish McCalla (Disturbing fact: Her stunt double in the 50s was none other than Sergio Aragones!)

Merle Oberon
