Favorite One-Hit Wonder

Relax, by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

VH-1 did a series of shows on one-hit wonders a few months back.

Shodan

Two tribes by FGTH was just as big - in Europe at least.

Then again, from my perspective Barry Manilow is a one-hit wonder as he only charted in Holland wiith Copacabana…

turning japanese - the vapours

You may dislike it, but as Annie X-mas pointed out, Murray Head
was the credited artist and it was a hit.

What ** BwanaBob ** said. It was also the start of the Andrew Lloyd Webber empire.

Rico Suave - Gerardo
The Humpty Dance - Digital Underground
Bust A Move - Young MC
Jump Around - House of Pain
Take On Me - a-ha
Tainted Love - Soft Cell
I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) - The Proclaimers
But the absolute coolest and/or most bizarre example may be True by Spandau Ballet. Great, great song. Everyone assumes that it’s a love song (logical given the melody and the title), but have you listened to the words on this song. It makes no frigging sense. At all.

Nobosy cares though.

Undercover angel- Alan 'o Day

It charted in the way ONIB did? It was an international hit?

Sunny by Bobby Hebb

The single of the song Jesus Christ Superstar was credited to “Murray Head With The Trinidad Singers.” It debuted on the Billboard Top 40 chart on 8 May 1971, topped out at #14, and stayed on the chart for a total of 8 weeks.

I’ll second Dream Academy’s “Life In A Northern Town,” and add:

“The Salt In My Tears” by Martin Briley

Dream Academy had another Top 40 hit with The Love Parade the same year.

Mine was mentioned already: Green-Eyed Lady by Sugarloaf. To me, the long (normal) version isn’t long enough.

Can’t believe I’m the only one who likes that song:

Ah Leah by Donnie Iris

OOOO!!! Second that!

Hobo Humpin Slobo Babe - Whale
rawk on

My favorite one hit wonder:
Driver’s Seat - Sniff’n’ the Tears - 1979

zeldar - Gilbert O’Sullivan had a 3rd hit - “Get Down” - told you once before and I won’t tell you know more Get Down, etc

RealityChuck - Spirit was an unbelievably talented and equally underated rock group. I could never understand why they never hit the big time.

Looking Glass (mentioned earlier for the song Brandy) had another minor hit the same year with Jimmy Loves Mary Anne.

How about Popcorn by Hot Butter?

“Too Shy” by Kajagoogoo popped into my head when I read the thread title, and so did that guy’s haircut.

“Mexican Radio” Wall of Voodoo

Double Shot (Of My Baby’s Love) Swingin’ Medallions

Brother Louie Stories
