Ooooh, I haven’t thought about Jay’s potato chips in years! a Guilty Pleasure!![]()
They used to stock them in the vending machine in our motorpool.
I live in Virginia, and can’t get raisin-filled cookies, which seem to be a Pennsylvania Dutch thing.
You’ll also see it called State Fair chicken.
Peanut patties. A delectable treat that tastes like a soft peanut brittle. The weird thing is multiple firms in Texas make them, but virtually no one sells them outside Texas.
But as a proud cheese-gobbling Wisconsinite, the cheese curds on poutine are different from fried cheese curds. The ones on poutine are usually the fresh “squeaky” cheese curds. Deep fried ones are battered and, well, deep fried. Think mozzarella stick… but cheddary. And probably dipped in ranch because just about everything in Wisco is covered in ranch. (Ew.)
The regional food I crave that’s not from my region is a proper beignet with a cup of coffee with chicory. I mean, fresh out of the fryer, still hot beignet. Mmmm…
Still can’t find Hormel tamales in a can. Hormel doesn’t market them in Canada and amazon.ca doesn’t sell them.
Other stuff I buy when I swing down to the States:
A variety of Birch Beers
Does Sharp Cheddar aerosol Easy Cheese still exist?
I crave the hell out of San Francisco sourdough. Other sourdoughs are too weak on the sour, Although there is one company here that makes it pretty good finally.
Is thiswhat you’re looking for?
Yep. Love 'em. I was very happy to find a local sandwich shop that does a good job with them.
Yes!

Classic North American grape flavour is not well known in the UK: concord grapes are not really a thing here. Welch’s juice is now available on supermarkets but it’s not a big thing, particularly. But my wife ADORES grape soda! It was her craving when she was pregnant (with both kids), so I had to order cases of it from UK suppliers of US products.
At least I could do that. Trying to find her some of the Fanta Passion for which she developed a…well, a passion, I suppose, while working in East Africa is nigh-on impossible.
Whenever I’m in France I go a bit croissant-loopy. Yes, croissants are available all round the world, but fresh, early morning croissants from the boulangerie…oh, just the very greatest.
