Favorite site for buying airplane tickets?

I’ve been using Travelocity and Orbitz, and they’re OK. But it’s a pain to try to compare prices. And I’m thinking that there’s at least one site where they do the comparisons for you and tell you the best deal. Is that true?

So, what’s your favorite place to buy tickets on the web, and why?

It seems like a mashup of all available booking sites, including Orbitz and Travelocity. But they are just a website and not a booking agent. Their results will take you to a booking agent to complete the sale.

Seconded.

Sidestep

My wife and I consistently get the best prices from that site, another place that searches all other sites.

Thirding Kayak. That’s all I use.

The nice thing is that it does make you book directly through the airline. If you buy a ticket through a third party and there’s a problem such as missing a connection, then a lot of times you need to go through the third party who then needs to go through the airline, and it can be even more of a hassle. (No cite, just anecdotes).

I’ll try Kayak. I looked at Expedia and Travelocity today for Seattle tickets, and ended up finding them cheaper at the Northwest Airlines website.

Why not try an insider site? Log in as guest.

Thanks so much and if there are any other ideas I’ll check them out too.

Someone here suggested farechase.com to me recently. I’ve used it twice already. Is kayak better? It sounds like they basically do the same thing.

www.bt-store.com typically nets me prices going out of the country for savings of 20% or more over what I find at Travelocity/Orbitz. The only problem is that sometimes you have to do your own footwork with the airlines to secure your discount.

I also like kayak.com.
