I’m partial to Cleveland Rocks!
I don’t particularly like Do You Know The Way To San Jose, so I’m going with Neal’s Fandango byThe Doobie Brothers.
There aren’t many, so I’ll have to go with “So Long, Mary” (at 1:10)
In no particular order:
Sufjan Stevens, Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois
True Believers, Lucky Moon
Wilco, Casino Queen
Uncle Tupelo, Sauget Wind
Michael Stipe from REM used to live here, but I’m unaware of any songs he wrote about the place. By all accounts he hated it. As I recently read in a Facebook meme, “Southern Illinois is St. Louis’s New Jersey”. I’m still waiting for our Springsteen.
Earth Blues, Jimi Hendrix.
Lisa Se Klavier (Lisa’s Piano) by Koos Kombuis. Paints a picture of a little bohemian slice-of-life in a particular street in my town. A very resonant word picture.
Aliotta Haynes & Jeremiah’s Lake Shore Drive.
So much better than that drivel Sinatra spewed about his kind of town. Thankfully, I don’t hear that thing much since Frankie died.
Hey, them’s fightin’ words! :dubious:
Also in Portland. I looked up “songs about Portland” on Wikipedia, but I’m not familiar with any of them. So I’m gonna go with “Feel It All Around” by Washed Out. It’s not about Portland, but there is a strong connection. ![]()
Agreed on both counts.
Also, for those not familiar with it: Lake Shore Drive.
The Hot Toddies, “Seattle.”
When I lived in Sacramento, I wrote a song about the city. It’s called “Summer in Sacramento” and its all about the heat. ![]()

Probably this one:
[/QUOTE]I like the comment below: “The Russian version of the Power Rangers is very different than the others.”
Susan Werner, “Chicago Any Day”
Ah, Shagging On The Beach… kids would rake and rope off a section of beach to be a dance floor, and crank tunes like this. We called the music Carolina Beach Shagging and the dancing style was The Shag.
Yeah, but “The bluest skies you’ve ever seen/are in Seattle”???
Saw a shirt there with cartoony people in a downpour: “The bluest guys you’ve ever seen are in Seattle”
Saw a tour of “Bands that WCFL made famous” at Summerfest*. They brought the last living member of the band to come up on stage and sing “LSD”.
Best driving song ever, I often detour to “take that drive” just so I can blast that song.
*Hey, if I grew up in Milwaukee, can I count the Laverne & Shirley theme song?
“Kansas City” - lots of good versions, not sure I could pick a favorite.
