Favorite Soothing Female Vocalists?

I’m not sure Christine McVie gets enough credit.

“Prove Your Love” is probably my favorite Christine Fleetwood Mac song.

I’ve always found Cesaria Evora soothing.

Dionne Warwick - Deja Vu

Wing

YMMV

Patsy Cline

Illusion - Face of Yesterday

My first thought was Regina Spektor.
Some of her music may be quirky to the point of being… well, too quirky.
But listening to “On the Radio” makes me fall in love with her every time.

Christina Courtin. Sounds soothing without sounding like a 6 year old like some of the genre do.

I thought of this thread immediately when I heard Natasha Khan/Bat For Lashes on NPR this afternoon. Apparently the lyric themes aren’t so soothing but the music and vocals were.

I so want her do a cover of “Closer” by NIN.

Yep, I like McLachlan for soothing. And Lori Carson. One of my playlists features McLachlan’s “Possession” followed by Carson’s “Something’s Got Me” which starts with “There are some thing’s you can’t possess…”

And Lisa Loeb should be mentioned.

Irene Kral.

She left us too soon, and too young.

Many of mine are already listed - Liz Frasier, Lisa Gerrard, Dido, Norah Jones, Bat For Lashes

I’d add Beth Gibbons, Basia, Hope Sandoval, Tanita Tikaram, Émilie Simon, Corrine Drewery and Aurora.

Laura is a beautiful melancholy song without veering into depression.

Another vote for Hope Sandoval and Margo Timmins.
Also Jackie Evancho

I also feel this way, but didn’t want to respond until I heard more songs…

You are right. Very apt description

I fail to see the nepotism - she seems to have come up via music school and lounge singing. She certainly didn’t trade on her Dad’s name.

And I’ve always seen her as easy-listening pop (with as much folk and country leanings as jazz).

Jewel.

And I’ll add a +1 for Norah Jones, Dido, Enya, Sarah McLachlan, and Tori Amos.

Eva Cassidy, late and lamented of Washington, DC, can never get too much love. One of the sweetest voices who ever lived and sang the blues.
