My favorite is Italian Asti~Sparkling white wine. Whats yours? Has anbody ever tried Chateau d’Yquem? it’s supposed to be the best dessert wine in the world. I promise myself I will try it some day, but the cheapest bottle of it is $300.
Two wrongs do not make a right…but three lefts do.
I’m fond of Asti too. When I lived in Italy, I could usually be found with a bottle of Moscato, mumbling to myself after karaoke night at the NCO club.
Nowadays, I just do the basics. Whites with seafood our poultry, reds with beef. And, to tell the truth, I’m not good at discerning the dryness by the name. Some kinda mental block, I guess.
I was fortunate enough to be treated to Chateau d’Yquem some years back as a part of a recreation of Babette’s Feast. We also had the burgundy they drank (not an 1800 whatever, but pretty old, 1961 I think). They were both fantastic.
You can get some very good dessert wines for a lot less, though. Bonnie Doon is one winery that comes to mind.
Don’t care for Asti. Not sure why. My favorite Champagne (that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, that is) is Veuve Cliquot.
Other wines: St. Supery makes the best Sauvignon Blanc I’ve ever tasted. And Chateau Montelena’s Chardonnay is fabulous. For bargain prices, it’s hard to beat Rothschild’s Mouton Cadet for both the white and red Bordeaux – Mmmmm…
If you like roses and rouges, you should try V. Sattui’s Gamay Rouge. Very, very nice.
Anyone have a good recommendation for a Gewurtztraminer? We just had a bottle of Trimbach; it was okay. Any other suggestions?
I much prefer red wines, and I like any Merlot that has a woody (comments to yourself please) flavor. I’m not picky on who bottles it. Let’s just keep it over $3 per bottle.
Things are random only insofar as we don’t understand them.
Well, last week I posted a question over at Chef Troy’s site about this wine. I’m trying to find a similar wine, especially if it’s a New York State wine. But I digress. The wine was an inexpensive Sardinian wine, 1996 Argiolas ‘Perdera’.
Well thanks for the introduction. They don’t carry it but by reading some of the descriptions I have some basis for trials (and isn’t that the fun part?)
Ravenswood vintner’s blend is a nice $12 bottle. Just finished a case of a '96 Cline zin which was quite fine. Also, Meridian’s Cab Sauv. If we’re indulging - a Ridge Sonoma or other zin.
I can only drink a few ounces of wine at the right moon phase to be headache-free, but I still prefer reds over whites.
