Favourite Christmas song?

This is actually “Stille Nacht.”

I’ve also performed this as a solo on Communion Sunday, regardless of the season. Even did it a capella once. I love the chant-like melody of the song.

Another one of my favorites, which I forgot to mention earlier, is “Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella”.

Gary Hoey - Carol of the Bells

At least it’s not Grandma getting run over on an endless loop. My SO would do that if I’d let her.

I like In The Bleak Midwinter. I always look up Alison Crowe’s version this time of year.

The Dixie Chicks with Rosie O’Donnell recorded a song titled, “Merry Christmas from the Family”.

Call me a sentimentalist but the opening line is so evocative of my childhood, that it brings a tear to my eye . . .

Mom got drunk and Dad got got drunk
At our Christmas Party . . .

Ah, nostalgia!

^^^ That song is also done by country duo Montgomery Gentry which is actually the only copy of the song that I have ever heard. I had no idea that it was done by anyone else.

God bless you and Montgomery Gentry always!!!

Another vote for Annie Lennox’s God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen.

“Silent Night” sung by David Sedaris as Billie Holiday. Lady Dave, if you will.

You stole my answer.

However, I’m also partial to A Patrick Swayze Christmas.

I really hate 99% of any “traditional” Christmas songs.

Seriously, they’re all terrible. How does anyone like them? At least in this thread most of you are posting something other than traditional songs.

My absolute favorite is Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home.)

But I am the ONE person who loves Wonderful Christmastime. The production and synth sounds in that song warm my heart.

Oooo!! Great thread and a good excuse for me to post this:

Wexford Carol with Alison Krauss and YoYo Ma

Cristina Pato on bagpipes. All done in one take, this is a perfect little jewel.

^^^ To me, no other female singer is better than Alison!

God bless you and her always!!!

Holly (a fan of her since 1994)

“Silent Night” (auf Deutsch): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUb8ySdERKs
“Silver Bells” (can’t believe I didn’t hear this one until my teacher started playing it a few weeks ago!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stEjTFMb940

Thank you and ITA! She could sing the Chicago phone directory front to back including yellow pages and it would be enchanting. She just keeps getting better and teaming up with other giants too. And so frickin pretty!

^^^ May she get her 28th Grammy award in February!

God bless you and her always!!!

Seconded. It sums up the mixture of joy and cynicism with which I greet each festive season as I get older.

The Christmas we get we deserve. Indeed.

Mistress for Chrismas - AC / DC
Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight) - The Ramones
Christmas In Hollis - Run DMC

Almost forgot:
Beethoven Symphony No. 9 IV “Ode To Joy”, otherwise known as “The Theme from Die Hard”.
