I was told at a Staples that I would need a wireless modem to fax scanned documents off my computer, using my cell phone. This doesn’t really make sense to me, and Staples is not known for its technical expertise.
What do I need? I’m thinking of doing this off a laptop. I thought there would be an adapter I could use between a phone cord and the cell phone, into the microphone/headphone combination port.
I’ve never tried faxing, but I get onto the internet with my laptop/cell phone, so I’m sure it’s no problem.
I have a Samsung 'phone; the adapter is called a “Data Link Cable”, model #DC020, also made by Samsung. One end goes into the same slot used to charge the 'phone, the other end into the seriel port.
Mind you, when I bought this stuff (spring of 2000), I knew what I wanted to do (get on the internet with a laptop/cell phone) and bought the phone specifying that. I tried two major 'phone shops: the first said they had the 'phone, but would need to order the adaptor, the second had both in stock. I’m not sure if you can jury-rig solutions with the microphone/headphone combination port.
