FBI Agent in Petraeus Case Sent Shirtless Photos to Jill Kelley.

I’m still waiting for Michael Westen to take things into his own hands.

If it turns out that Petraeus has tweeted crotch shots, I’m officially giving up any hope of mature adults running the government.

How about this?

The soap-operatic quality of this is quite staggerring. Kevin Drum is a wonkish center-left blogger whose natural territory is posts with lots of charts about Social Security and he can’t stop writing about this. What the hell were these people doing? It’s like some Coen Brothers movie.

Okay, who is the bastard who thought that it would be a good idea to stop sprikling saltpeter in the General’s breakfasts?

Yes I know that Saltpeter was not used for that purpose but still…

Jill Kelly was one of the great adult film performers of the 1990s. It’s too bad it’s not the same person.

These are jugs.

Lets buy Sam a cheap case of beer and get Fiona some explosives and get this party started.

And who the hell has time to crank out 20 to 30 thousands pages of emails? Did somebody hire Dio as a ghost writer?

rushes to stand in line, peers expectantly over Inner Stickler’s shoulder

OOOOOOOkay, son…just take it easy…just set the keyboard down niiiiiiiice and sloooooowwww…that’s right…you’re doin’ fine…yessir…we’ll get you a nice place to rest, and lot’s of time to think…nice, safe comfortable walls all around you…

Yeah, I immediately thought of Burn After Reading. They can get John Malkovichto play Petraeusin the TV movie. Maybe they can add a scene like this one.

Man, this scandal is getting good!
This general Petraeus-he doesn’t appear all that bright. I see him as a slightly dopier version of Gen. Alexander Haig (Nixon’s favorite, over-promoted general).

I think what my friend may have meant is “it takes *really *huge jugs to make an ugly woman attractive.”

[QUOTE=Mother Jones]
. . the FBI has uncovered between 20,000 and 30,000 pages of “potentially inappropriate” emails between Allen and Jill Kelley, a 37-year-old Tampa woman whose close friendship with Petraeus ultimately led to his downfall.

That’s a lot of inappropriate email.

I wonder how much appropriate email they sent each other. . .

Phew! For a moment there, I thought the world had turned upside down! Thanks for putting my mind at rest!

Don’t be silly. One shirtless man with a gun and legal access to all of your personal files and complete authority to shoot you and/or confiscate all of your possessions and deprive you of liberty with impunity can hardly be anything about which one should worry.

Forgive me, but I’ve missed this story except in passing. Can somebody Cliff Notes what happened for me so I can catch up?

Let’s not forget the ability to have you shipped to a remote military base so he can torture you with impunity.

Petraeus (head of the CIA) was having an affair with his official biographer, Patricia Broadwell, who then wrote a suspiciously flattering book about him. He apparently broke it off a few months ago. Broadwell then sent some vaguely harassing, anonymous emails to Jill Kelly, an unpaid party-planner for the military in Tampa who was a friend of Petraeus, probably because she thought Kelly was having an affair with Petraeus and was jealous.

Kelly showed the emails to a friend of hers in the FBI. The FBI agent, who seems to have been on some sort of ulterior motive, got the FBI to start an investigation on the grounds the emails were “harassing”. The emails didn’t mention either Broadwell or Petraeus by name, so the FBI initially didn’t realize who they were investigating. But they put a strangely large amount of resources into tracking down the owner of the account (probably because the FBI agent was pushing the case) and figured out the account belonged to Broadwell and that she was getting romantic emails from Petraeus. They also searched Broadwell’s computers, and found classified documents on them, raising concerns Petraeus was illegally giving his lover classified information.

Worried that Petraeus was being blackmailed or set up or something, the FBI continued to monitor the account. The original FBI agent was also kicked off the case for being “too involved”. The FBI agent decided that they were trying to cover up the case to protect Petraeus, and so leaked the investigation to Republicans in Congress. They called the US head of Intelligence, who talked to Petraeus about the affair. Petraeus then submitted his resignation, which Obama accepted.

This seems to have sparked a reopening of the original investigation. Broadwell’s home was raided over the weekend, and Kelly’s email has apparently been searched as well, revealing “inappropriate” emails between her and another high-level General and the fact that the original FBI agent who started the whole thing had sent her shirtless photos back before the investigation had started.

Right?

I honestly would not be surprised if this happened at this point. Honestly.
