Fear of Roller Coasters

pldennison, I was there on July 6th. A couple of good storms came through while I was there, it cleared off by mid/late afternoon, though. I didn’t realize what I’d done to my knee a the time, so I was still able to ride virtually all of the coasters.

Coldfire, here’s a link to "Cedar Point Theme Park.

These guys have been voted one of the best coaster parks in the world for about the last 20 years in a row. They are located in Sandusky, Ohio and are only about 90 minutes from home for me. I used to buy a season pass every year, but haven’t done it for a couple years.

We’re a pair, Shadowfox. I’ll meet you sometime at any roller coaster heavy park, and we can spit on the ferris wheel as we pass. We’ll bring the kids.

…at night, the ice weasels come…

Jab1-
Yes i am scared of roller coasters. And I do realize it just SEEMS as if I am going to be thrown to a horribly bloody and gruesome death. I also realize that I am safer there than on my way to the park.

Somehow knowing that doesn’t stop the constant visualization of flying off the track turning upside down in the car and feeling my face run along the asphalt at 70 miles an hour down past the bone…So we all know its an irrational fear…but who cares?

Fear is healthy. It is a mechanism that keeps us alive. I am also afraid to clean an electrical outlet with steel wool. Doesn’t mean I should do it.

I do agree that when fear prevents you from doing things you would like to do it is a problem. This is the case with heights and flying and bridges. But Roller Coasters? Why on earth would anyone ever NEED to ride a roller coaster?

And to all my anti coaster brothers?? Stay strong…they can’t make us go. Just enjoy the people watching.

Frankie- Scared Sh**less by those things!

Why should I conquer my fear of rollercoasters? I don’t understand the attraction to something that makes you want to throw up. I also feel there are enough risks in life that I don’t have to go out searching for silly ones. Finally, and most trivially, this is another “fun time” that requires me to stand in long lines in the hot sun. No thank you.

I love roller coasters! They bring out the child in all that love them. I’ve been to Cedar Point many times and find each time returning to be as fun as the last.

I was scared to death of roller coasters.

Finally, during my Sr. year of high school, I went on my first roller coaster with another friend who was scared witless - Batman at Six Flags. We both were instantly smitten, and spent the rest of the day standing in line for the rest of the coasters at the theme park, even though we had our eyes squeezed shut the whole time.

They’re not as bad as you think, and they can be a lot of fun - though I still refuse to go on the upside-down boat. You know, the one that goes from side to side, and gradually works its way to the top, where you hang upside-down for a few seconds. I don’t think I could handle it, but there are probably folks who love the terrifying things.
