feeding vs eating

Why do we say dolphins, and other non-human animals are “feeding”, but then
we say people are “eating”?
Though we do say our pets are “eating”. But our pets are people, huh?

I have no idea if this makes sense to anything else, but when eating is continuous (like dolphins catching fish after fish from a school; horses grazing; pandas stripping bamboo leaves for hours; monkeys eating fruit after fruit from trees; etc etc) I think of it as feeding.

I eat a set portion for a short amount of time, and so do my pets, so…

Here’s another kink: babies “feed.” They’re human and they don’t eat all day long…
