Feel Sorry For The Bin Laden Family?

I heard a report on NPR yesterday in which a family friend (physician) was talking about the Bin Laden Family business and how this is taking its toll on their business and personal lives. (He called them a “sweet family”) who just happened to have birthed a madman. Apparently, they have donated millions to various charities and to Harvard. So what’s the Doper concensus? Y’all are pretty much right on the money with current events and their interpretations. So what’s your take on this NPR report?

Thanks

Quasi

Stalin’s daughter moved to the United States and became an upright citizen. Her father probably had anywhere from 15 to 30 million people killed, and the USA probably lucked out becaused he died before the days of huge ICBM arsenals - yet I don’t think anyone complained when she moved here…she denounced her father anyway.
I would like to see the “American Ben Ladens” go on TV and trash Osama. I think that would send a clear message that he is a complete outcast and not some sort of misunderstood rebel. I believe Arabic culture places a high degree of importance to the opinion of family members, so a public denunciation from them would be damning.

If the family members became naturalized U.S. citizens, which has many obligations, such as to uphold the U.S. Constitution, I would not “feel sorry” for them, but might allow them to stay here, had I the choice to make. However, Sammy Bin Laden has targeted ALL Americans, so they might watch out for Christmas packages from him. I like calling him Sammy because I know he’d hate it.

I agree with saudade that a public comment against Sammy would be the right thing to do.

Didn’t Stalin’s daughter suffer from life long mental illnesses, due to her relationship with her father?

After all, think about it-wasn’t it the Unabomber’s own brother who turned him in?

Osama always was the black sheep of the Bin Ladin family, from what I understand. He is one of 40-something kids. But the rest of the clan reportedly always supported the Saudi royal family, and cut ties with Osama when he denounced the King of Saudi Arabia.

You’re getting dangerously close to the “mighty white of you” territory with that statement. Don’t know if they are US citizens or not. If they are US citizens they are equal with you and have an equal right as you do to live in the US. If they are permanent residents, they also have a right to stay in the US regardless of who their brother might be.

China Guy, you’re right. But you didn’t see “had I the choice to make.” Obviously I know I don’t and never will have that choice. Hmm. I thought I was in the “Opinion” sector.
