Can anyone tell me why I (and a couple of other people I know) experience a much more severe hangover when drinking rice-based alchoholic beverages?
For instance, It is very common for me to have several drinks (for arguments sake, we’ll say, Scotch or Canadian whiskey) on a Saturday night and wake up the next morning feeling fine with no lingering effects. If I drink rice based alchoholic beverages though, say,…Budweiser beer or Sake’ (I believe that’s the spelling, Japenese rice wine), my hangover is bad enough to cause me to beg for death.
Like I said, this is only with rice-based alchoholic beverages and I have a couple friends that feel the same way. Is there something in rice that causes hangovers in alchoholic beverages on a more severe scale than other types of liquer ?
