Started probably Tuesday, I noticed a discharge and half closed eye. Vet did a steroid shot and sent me home with 2 bottles of drops, 3X a day. Immediate improvement the day we got back from the vet, but now it’s no better, and he’s scratching the OTHER eye against everything he can find, although no discharge. I have a vet appt. Monday morning. She did a stain and saw no scratch on his eyeball. Wondering if I should do the “mortgage you house fool emergency vet” tomorrow. He’s 18.
I’m a bit surprised your cat is even alive at 18!
FWIW I’m dealing with a rabbit (only six years old, but they don’t live as long as cats, either) that has conjunctivitis. Treatment has been drops in the eye and it hasn’t been spreading to the other side.
I thought I’d ask: How are you administering those drops?
It takes two of us with the rabbit.
We gently wrap the bunny in a nice comfortable cloth, then my wife gently and firmly holds the bunny bundle while I unsqueeze the affected eye and drip a drop onto the eyeball. My aim has gotten pretty good. The cloth mainly keeps the wife from getting scratched up but it also gives her leverage to keep the rabbit in one place so it can’t squirm around and avoid the eyedrop. I tried a couple times alone but either couldn’t keep the rabbit in place or couldn’t pry the rabbit’s eye open to receive the eyedrop.
