FEMA bureaucracy at work: refugees virtually institutionalized?

The hosting site appears to be one of those tinfoil-hatteries, and at least one contributor to the thread pokes holes in the more lurid descriptions of this FEMA operation as being way beyond the pale, noting the ease with which the OP is able to photograph and report back, etc, and going back over the FEMA logic to show that it isn’t unsupportable…

…but still, these New Orleans refugees being housed in a facility out in the middle of fucking nowhere, treated essentially as incompetents and subjected to institutional-type regulated controls (even if the reasons are indeed related to liability and a desire to establish and maintain control in the midst of all this chaos), and thrown out of the program if they decide to leave even for (say) an afternoon?

This description really really reminds me of the treatment doled out at the Queens Men’s Shelter for the Homeless Mentally Ill at Creedmoor, circa 1984.

I would sure as hell rather take my chances on the streets with no assistance programs, how about you?
