I’ve been to notice something lately. Some feminists have been saying they are “misandry supporters.” Aren’t they just making the sex gap worse? Some are saying that ALL men should be killed. Do you guys think they are properly representing feminism?
Also, on a side note, someone recently said to me, “Women can’t be sexist.” What do you think about that? I’m really curious to see the public opinion on this, and hopefully, if there are any on this website, a feminist to respond and put their opinion on it.
It’s funny how actual misandry started to go down around the year 2000 but the accusations of misandry just started to get more and more common (and this also goes for the accusations of cries of universal racism that also started to decline around 2000.)
It seems that people are fighting the last war on this.
analogously, “people of color can’t be racist”. To the extent that the oppressed group doesn’t have the power to make things worse for the oppressor group (one definition of “X-ist”), this could be true. But as far as making judgements based on race/gender/etc., sure, anyone can be X-ist.
I have feminist friends who will gladly affirm themselves as “misandrists,” and I’ve even seen comments to the effect of “men need to just go,” meaning, there should not be any men any longer.
It’s both an ironic and a defensive manouver in most cases where these claims are made. Practically zero feminists would affirm these ideas as actual, actionable ideology.
“Misandry” usually is used to mean hate for patriarchal or masculine norms, rather than as hatred for each man individually.
