fencing on ebay

Hi. I was looking on ebay and I began to wonder … are there a lot of goods for sale on ebay that are stolen? I could see a large batch of something being taken from a warehouse and then fenced this way. I’ve heard of this happening with individual items and a guy selling his car bit by bit on ebay while claiming on insurance that it was stolen. But has there been any news about organized crime using ebay, or similar, systems as a common way to fence “da goods?”

[Note: this is not a discussion of how best to do so, that would violate boards rules. I think. Moderators can step in, if it gets out of hand. I just want to know if this is widely down. Seems like it would be.]

Most of the bulk sellers I’ve seen on eBay turn out to be small retail/wholesale businesses, running an ebay store as a way of tapping into the online market; nothing sinister at all.

I’m sure stolen goods do get bought and sold on eBay though (You’re selling the laptop, but not the power supply?, you’re selling the HiFi, but not the speakers or any cables?)

FWIW Ebay certainly try to keep track of such things. My auctions were deleted because Ebay (UK) suspected me of bootlegging as I was selling a number of CDs as a job lot. :frowning:
