Fender Princeton 65 guitar amp - what are these cables?

I know we have a few guitarists puttering about the boards.

I’ve got the amp mentioned in the title. It’s a nice 1x12 combo. But there’s a little mystery in the back of the amp. It has a stereo-rca cable (the kind you’d plug a CD-player into a receiver with) built into the amp, and plugged into a metal plate attached to the bottom of the cabinet. The metal plate appears to serve no purpose other than to give you a place to plug in the cable when it’s not plugged into something else.

The owners manual does not mention this cable at all (warning: PDF). I don’t know if it’s supposed to be input or output (or other?) so I haven’t gone plugging it into other things.

What’s it for??

Sound like the send/receive to a spring reverb unit. Gotta dash, bit busy right now.

+1. Gently shake the amp - does the “plate in the bottom of the amp” rattle - does it sound like it has springs in side it that can vibrate? Those are the reverb springs… the location you mention is typically where the “Reverb Tank” (as it is often called) is…

Indeed it does! One more of lifes little mysteries solved.

Thanks guys!
