Ferguson, MO

From the article you cited:

There is no breakdown between felonies and misdemeanors, and what percentage of those arrests are eventually tried, convicted, or incarcerated, but it is still an alarming number of young people being processed through the criminal justice system.

But… if we didn’t arrest copious numbers of our citizenry and declare them to be transgressors, how would we ever keep them under our thumb?

When I was a teenager, I had a foolproof system for avoiding being arrested, and I’ve found it’s continued to work perfectly well into adulthood;

  1. Don’t break the law
  2. Repeat as necessary

Maybe instead of questioning why so many young people are getting jailed, we shod question why the younger generation thinks the law doesn’t apply to them.

Hmmm. None of the few dozen of my friends when I was young were ever arrested for something more severe than a minor traffic violation. I am just thinking how much we skewed the curve for the rest of the young people…

And don’t be black.

Arrested? You don’t get arrested for minor traffic violations. Unless you consider reckless driving, DUI, or vehicular manslaughter minor traffic violations.

I’m not aware of any jurisdiction in which blackness is an arrestable offense.

Your privilege is showing. Also, your ass.

Then there’s the whole issue of for-profit prisons… Gotta put the books in the black SOMEHOW.

If you’re going to break the law, as in stealing millions from the federal government by not paying grazing fees, it helps a lot to be white and to bring your own armed vigilantes. This motherfucker posed one hell of a lot bigger threat to the public safety than any unarmed black jaywalking teen ever did. Maybe some of the younger generation thinks the law doesn’t apply to them because so many of the older generation gets away with bullshit like Clive Bundy did. Or when the police themselves are renegades, that degrades the public respect for the law.

This shit doesn’t happen in other western democracies because only in the US do we have a cheering section for policemen that murder citizens. Now the rule is shoot first if you think there’s the slightest risk of injury or you think you might muss your hair. If it’s theoretically possible for an unarmed man to hurt you, blow his ass away. If there’s a disoriented man with a steak knife, instead of tasing him or holding him off with a billy club, blow his ass away. As long as we have right wingers applauding every shot, this shit will continue.

You need to get out more. I live in a rural area that is predominately white. A black friend of ours will no longer visit us because every time she does it involves a police pullover, asking if she’s lost, checking license and insurance, etc.

I agree. Cliven Bundy said as much as that he wanted to force the authorities to start shooting at his followers. They should have granted his wish.

Cite for “policemen murdering civilians”?

Please stop acting as if a 6’4" 292 lb. person could ever possibly be considered “unarmed” or “harmless” or “no threat”.

Is there any scenario in which you would approve of a policeman shooting a civilian in self-defense? Because judging from the content of your posts, I’m getting the definite impression that you’d rather see ten dead cops than one dead criminal.

If it’s that impossible to simply drive through a neighborhood without being pulled over every single time, I’d consider moving.

Cite for anyone being arrested and charged for the crime of being black?

If he exhausts non-lethal alternatives, yes. Both the recent shootings could have been avoided. Pepper spray, tasers, billy clubs can stop most anybody and don’t leave a corpse in the street. Instead, we have cops who refuse to take the slightest personal risk and instead shoot to kill at the slightest provocation, and a segment of the public that cheers every needless death.

So it’s your opinion that an officer should be required to physically grapple with a man who outweighs him before he is allowed to consider drawing his weapon? And if in the course of said grappling that man manages to wrestle his gun away from him and shoot him with it, well, that’s just the price he has to pay for not having been psychic and knowing in advance that he was going to need his Taser armed and ready?

In no case is the death of someone who assaults a cop “needless”.

First of all, the cop presumably has some training in unarmed combat which would negate any weight difference. Plus, he doesn’t have to physically grapple. Tasing works. Pepper spray works. A nice whack with a billy club works. But we allow the cop to reject these options, and say “Gee, there’s a chance I might get hurt. Better for ME that I blow his ass away.”

Haven’t you ever wondered why other countries don’t have cops murdering their own citizens?

Ask an MMA fighter how much “some training in unarmed combat” goes toward negating a 70-pound weight difference or more.

You contradict yourself.

Tasing works if the Taser is armed and ready to fire, and the target is stationary enough and not wearing bulky clothing. Pepper spray works if you get within grappling range, which, as you’ve stated above, a cop shouldn’t have to do.

Why should a cop ever be required to value his own safety less than that of the murderous criminal charging at him with violent intent? Why do you value the officer’s life less than that of the criminal?

Firstly, you have yet to provide a cite that this country has cops murdering their own citizens.

Secondly, other countries don’t have cops who have to worry that any random idiot on the street could have a deadly firearm tucked away where it can’t be seem until it’s too late.

If I’m betting, I’ll take the guy with the training who is physically fit and spot the 70 lbs.

What’s the excuse for not having a taser ready to fire? You seem to be saying that since they aren’t 100% effective, then murder is the cop’s only option.

I agree a cop shouldn’t have to be in grappling range. There is also the option of getting in the car, locking the door, and calling for backup.

Why should the 9/11 firemen have regarded the safety of the people in the towers less than their own? It’s part of the job. Why should a cop accept some physical risk? It’s part of the job. It’s “protect and serve”, not “protect my own sorry ass”.

The Missouri cop victims were murdered. Ditto the guy in NY choked to death for selling cigarettes.

I agree with you about the guns. Unfortunately the gun culture in the US will take generations to correct.

So,your answer to “Nigger, Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On You In Alix” is to move? A’ight, that’s where you’re coming from.
