Ferrer or Bloomberg?

I can’t stand Michael Bloomberg, I feel like he is a mayor for the rich and the rich only. I will probably not vote for him.

However, I don’t know that much about Ferrer either. I feel like he’ll probably be more interested in helping the poor. I feel like the rich don’t need that much help in New York City.

So I was hoping that people here could help me do a little bit of research by debating which of these candidates is best.

Thanks,
Erek

I kind of feel like the city is doing fairly well, considering all that has happened.

He’s stood up to unions and bargained better terms for the city. I consider this very important, because for too long, unions seemed to be the decision makers about how things get run, they shouldn’t be. He got 311 up and going. I think his work with the schools has been very good. Commerce and tourism are strong.

He’s made his mistakes too, West Side Stadium anyone?

I have a very positive take on the way things are, and the way things are going, I credit Bloomberg with that. Ferrer scares the #@%&$ out of me, I see a repeat of the Dinkins years if he gets into office. I have no clue what he’s going to do to improve things, but for me, it doesn’t matter so much, I already know I like what’s going on and am not going to rock the boat.

Hmm interesting. What do you think about a fare hike? I heard a rumor that there is an MTA surplus and we’re still getting a fare hike. Do you know anything about that?

Erek

The MTA has a big budget surplus this year, they’re going to have half price fares for a few weekends this holiday season as a little giveback. I think the surplus is supposedly only a temporary real estate tax thing, and it will go away in a couple of years, so they were not scrapping their plans for a fare hike just yet.

I’m not worried about it, there will be a whole lot of discussion about the proposed hike when they go to do it. If there is still a big surplus, they’ll never get the increase approved.
