FF 8 question

So, I’m playing this game, again. The first time I moved out of my house about halfway through. Now, GMRyujin bought a PS2 for all my Final Fantasy needs, and I’m playing it a second time.

And I’m stuck at the exact same place. My question is, does anyone know how to beat Bahamut? He keeps killing me.

And before you ask, I’m on Disc 4, all I have left is to enter Ultimecia’s Realm, and my highest level character is just about 30.

I hate to tell you this, but you can’t. Once you’ve started disc 4, you won’t be able to get to the Deep Sea Research Center to fight him. You must use the Ragnarok in order to land there. Once you’re there you will answer his questions as follows:

Bahamut: So, you wish to challenge me…
You: It’s not our will to fight.
Bahamut: Beggint me for mercy?
You: Never.
Bahamut: Damed imbeciles. Why do you wish to fight?
You: None of your business. (This is a third option, which is hidden)

Once you start fighting him, just Blind him and use Shell and Protect. Keep everyone’s HP as high as possible and be sure to heal them immediately following Bahamut’s Mega-Flare attack.

That’s it.

Erm, I’ve already been killed by him once on Disc 4. I left Edea’s house, used a chocobo to get the Ragnorak and landed at the Center.

With the right junctions, you don’t even need to use magic; you can just beat him to death with your physical attacks. However, should you choose to draw curaga from him to heal yourself, I won’t look down on you

I seem to recall that I had 100 of each spell joined to the following attributes:

hp: meteor (+4600)
str: aura (+70)
vit: meltdown (+80)
mag: water (+44)
spr: curaga (+65)
spd: triple (+70) (try casting haste on yourself with this ;)) (also, make sure that Quistis always attacks third in the round)
eva: tornado (+32)
hit: double (+40)
luck: float (+20)
elem attack: holy (only omega weapon absorbs it, and some monsters are vulnerable)
elem def: life, full-life, ultima, shell (absorb 90% of all elemental attacks)
stat attack: slow/blind/mute (nothing can hit you)
stat def: death, berserk, confuse, stop (avoid the worst effects)

It goes without saying that you should be at level 100, and have everyone’s ultimate weapon–if you can use Squall’s Lionheart attack with this setup, you can end the battle in one attack.

I should mention that once you have that junction, nothing except ultima weapon, omega weapon, Ultimecia, and those damned ruby dragons can threaten you.

D’oh! It’s been so long since I played the game that I had to look it up in my strategy guide. I misread the part where it said the area first became available on disc 3 as saying it was only available on disc 3. Sorry about that.

Level 100? Wow, none of my guys in any of the ff’s has ever come close to 100.

In ff8, it’s easy, as each level only requires 1000 exp. In fact, if you’re taking the time to explore, Squall can easily hit level 100 on disc 2. If you’re behind, and you want to get all these spells quickly, go to either the Island Closest to Hell or the Island Closest to Heaven, and look for the hidden draw points all around. Save a lot, cause there are nasty monsters on them.

I’ll have to check those out.

I guess leaving enc-half on Rinoa was a bad move on my part, huh?

Yep. The two islands are very small, and not easy to find. One’s at the western end of the archipelago due west of the desert prison, and the other’s in a small group of islands in the northeast of the Esthar continent, pretty much due east of Trabia garden.
