Fiber Optic TV Versus Cable

I have a fiber optic TV service, and really would prefer the old cable TV with its somewhat fuzzy picture. The fiber optic picture reloads about once every 3-5 seconds, so the screen intermittently scrambles. But what’s worse is the audio signal (dialogue) chops, or temporarily stops, every 3-5 seconds. Is this the price paid for the latest technology? Or is it the latest technology? Anyways, it’s so bad, I’d rather have the old cable hookup.

It sounds like you just need to have your TV service come do a maintenance call.

Call your provider. Your service is not operating correctly.

I mentioned it offhand to the service provider the last time he was here. He just hemmed and hawed and said it gets more that way the lower the channel. It’s apparently just the way it is. It’s been that way ever since it was installed a few years ago. There does seem to be variance in quality over a span of time. Maybe they’re a bad company if noone else has this problem.

If I were getting this poor quality of service, I’d record it and post the terrible quality on YouTube.

That is unacceptable. You need to escalate your service request to a service demand and they need to give you a discount for the poor service so far.

Fiber optic will deliver equal or better than cable. You are being misinformed by the company. Which one is it?

I don’t know if it’s FiOS that you have, sounds like it isn’t, because I had it for a few years and it was remarkably better than cable. Had TV, phone & internet and all three were better. The internet was routinely over 20MBs, the TV was rock-solid near Blu-Ray quality, and the phone was genuine dial tone (not VoIP). Only reason I don’t still have it is I had to move…

Why have you been putting up with this for a few years? If it’s that bad cancel the service, even doing with what you can get over rabbit ears sounds better than what you describe, assuming you’re in an area with no other cable companies and for some reason can’t use satellite.

Are you using Cat-5 cable inside your home network, or the cable wire that was already there? We had problems with the ATT U-Verse signal until switching out the wiring.

I don’t know what that is, so I assume I don’t have it. I have fiber optic, and the picture is sharp when it’s not breaking, or reloading, or whatever it’s doing. It’s usually alright, but it was bad enough during the Super Bowl that I stopped watching. The announcers voices were chopping off every few seconds.

As TBG says, why are you putting up with this? Isn’t there some technical help available in your town? Why are you paying the cable company for this worthless, crappy service?

My brother has fiber optic and it is nothing like you describe. You need to call and ask for this to be fixed. Be polite and firm, and if the person you speak to won’t help, ask to speak to their supervisor.

Who do you have your service with? If the local franchise won’t help you, you can contact the main company.

Cat 5 cable

If you don’t have it, it would be worth contacting your provider about getting it.

Sounds like you are having a problem with either your TV ( not liking the fiber optic) or the Box the provider put in. Check with the TV manufacture to see if there is an update for the TV. If not see if the Provider will change out your TV Box.
Good luck
