This may sound a little weird to people who follow soccer (football) really well, but: are the soccer teams in the Mexican League (Toluca, Atlas, Cruz Azul, etc.) governed by FIFA?
If not, why not? Thanks a lot.

The Mexican professional leagues are governed by FIFA. It’s FIFA, in conjunction with the national football federation of an individual country that designates which league is the top one in that country.
I don’t know of any place where football is played that the country (or other governing institution) isn’t a member of FIFA. I think there are more FIFA members than UN members.
Okay. Here’s another question (it’s very juvenile, but bare with me): if the Mexican League is governed by FIFA [pause for dramatic effect] why are the Mexican teams not in any of the FIFA video games? Seriously (I told you it was a juvenile question).
Ever since FIFA 2001 came out the PlayStation, I’ve been itching to get a match between Cruz Azul and Liverpool (of the EPL). I get the game, and there are no Mexican League teams to be found! Damnation! Even worse, they included the MLS teams. Who the hell cares about the “San Jose Earthquakes” or the “Columbus Crew”? How bogus is that?!
Makes me wanna riot…
Probably because the Mexican Football Federation didn’t get a good enough deal with Sony to give them the rights to put their teams on the game.
I think you should match the Crew versus Liverpool and see how bad it comes out.
…because the game is, well, a game. Is the Mexican League a big seller? No? Then don’t include it.
After all, I don’t remember the Danish League, the Estonian League or the the New Zealand League being included either…
The Dutch league is in there, though. Well, some teams
I don’t even know if we’re talking about seperate country deals. The makers of the game probably selected teams and nations that would appeal to the buyers of Playstation games. That would explain the presence of MLS teams over Mexican teams - even though the latter are probably much better.
Uh, yeah, Mexico is in the game. I’ve got the PS2 version, and Mexico’s there.
You go to the country “Internation” and then you’ve got a bunch of teams to select such as: Canada, USA, Mexico, Estonia, Tailand, and tons and tons of other teams. A lot of the countries that are under there don’t have big in-country leagues, and mainly play in the international competitions. The “International” section also has a lot of international teams, I suppose, as there’s also an England & Brazil team. I’m probably a little off on the reasoning, but suffice to say that a lot of the countries are there, just not their leagues. Oh, by the way, “International” isn’t in alphabetical order with the other teams, it’s at the end of them. You have to scroll to the end to get to it.
I hope this helps.
Every country’s First Division must be governed by FIFA or any player in that league will forfeit the privilege of playing in FIFA tournaments and matches. In fact, FIFA will not “endorse” any first division that encompasses more than one nation. The only exceptions I know of are a New Zealand team in Australia’s league, AS Monaco in France’s, and possibly some Welsh teams in the EPL.
Silly MLS teams! How dare they beat world powers like Vasco De Gama and Newcastle! Based on Luis Hernandez’s impact(or lack of one) in MLS, you might want to cut the US’s top league a little slack.
There are no Welsh teams in the EPL, though there are three in the lower divisions.
Derry City, who are technically a UK team, play in the League of Ireland.
Iceland is a part of FIFA, yet we are not even given the dignity of having our national bloody team in Fifa 2001 for the PC!!!
