Law 15 says the throw in is taken at the spot where the ball left the FOP. In practice, it’s up to the referee to decide how much leeway the thrower has. One referee I used to work with had a simple yet effective way of enforcing a strict definition. If the thrower was too far from where the ball went out - ISTR he’d allow about 3 yards at most - he’d blow his whistle, call it a foul throw, and award a throw to the opposing team. Kind of an asshole way to do it, IMO, but teams never tried to push the limit again.

Canada had a decent first half. They did well to land in the Final 16 and should be proud of their progress, but realistic about future successes.

Another fine run by Morocco though I don’t see them going past France. I wonder if they are the first non Europe/LatAm team to make two consecutive quarter finals.
Good showing from Canada, but it was a really good example of the quality of top teams at this level. The overall stats were probably pretty even, but Canada didn’t take their chances and Morocco did. What did Canada have, a dozen corners? I don’t remember a single dangerous chance they created from one.
Nothing to sneeze at that Canada have lost only 4 of their last 23 matches.
Canada was slightly ahead in xG actually. So yeah, created as well as Morocco, just a difference in finishing.
Morocco would have been hard-pressed if Canada had gotten a goal in its first half, because Canada can also play well without the ball. But once Canada had to start chasing the game, Morocco got the openings it wanted, and it all kinda cascaded into a three-goal rout.
Canada had a good tournament, on the whole. They’re still a program on the rise, if they can develop the players to follow up on the success of the current generation.
They charged hard out of the gate and then faded away when Morocco scored. They perked up toward the end but it wasn’t enough.
