FIFA World Cup 2026 - discussion etc

I’ve given up on expecting logical, clear thinking from athletes.

It’s not too personal; since I just learned it, I’m rather struggling with it. The five stages of grief, as they say, but currently stuck in ‘anger’.

Can’t wait to see what the Schickeria/Ultras have to say about it.

I don’t think he’s a bad guy, but just very naive, and not too bright actually. I’m sure if Leon Goretzka hadn’t left Bayern, he would have given him a piece of his mind after the summer break.

One of South Africa’s midfielder has died, just after the tournament.

Probably more likely down to a lack of awareness politically than anything else… at least, I really hope so. He seems a fairly uncomplicated, unpretentious bloke so I hope he just thought ‘why not’ rather than jumped at the chance.

“El Diego is my shepherd. He leads me in paths of dribblings. I will not fear in the quarterfinals, I will play 7 8 games forever.”

Here we go Norway-England.

I feel this thread was awfully quiet just before an England - Norway game.

Estadio Azteca is not “two miles high”. Jon Strong already coming out of the gate with the hyperbole.

Yeah, much closer to 1 than 2.

Oh man, I thought Haaland was going to attempt a bike on that.

Just feeling each other out so far. England with most of the possession, but at least 2 glimpses of Norway having chances too.

The internet says Norway is in a 4-2-3-1, but it’s basically a 4-5-1 as best I can tell with little space between the two lines, and little pressing. Gonna be a bit of a drudge with - hopefully - some explosions of action.

ETA: can’t escape David Beckham this Cup.

Game’s pretty lethargic.

It is muggy in Miami. No need to rush.

This game needs a goal badly

Low block, Tuchel’s achilles heel in the Bundesliga.

Great - this has to drag me away from Wimbledon.

Tuchel left Dortmund 9 years ago? Wow, I feel foolish having to check if he coached Haaland at all.

Close one there. England had a few chances.

Good timing for the hydration break, 0-0.

Whose idea was it hold football matches in the middle of July in Miami? Oppressive heat and humidity and it shows.

England’s coach is very dynamic.

Seriously, they should have gone with green bay.

Oh dear…

Free kick…

Too high!
