To me, it looked like a kick to the Achilles. It also was a slewfoot, which I thought was going to cause a concussion.
So far, nearly all the games are going better than I could have ever hoped for two weeks ago. Almost all the right outcomes.
They’re down to nine now?! This is going to get ugly.
Earlier in the broadcast they said 4 was important for Canada. This would move Canada to the top of the group and a draw against Switzerland would give Canada the group.
Good, 11 vs. 9, more chances for Canada to pour on the score. Full-on attack, no defense, a 4-0 lead to play with.
I don’t think I’d want to be a Qatar player who has to return home after an own goal.
Better than Colombia…
At least it came in a hopelessly lost game, so he won’t be blamed for being the decisive factor. Not like a 1-0 defeat.
6-0. A day that will live in (the opposite of) infamy.
I think honour works.
I already see people on Reddit calling David “Maple Messi.”
Canadians sprinting to take a corner trying to get one more goal before the final, but can’t. 6-0 final.
I’m making kimchi nachos for the nightcap!
Canada wins the group with a win or draw against Switzerland.
Should they lose, it would take a collapse of epic proportion, plus a tremendous performance by Bosnia-Herzegovina over Qatar, for Canada to not finish second.
The three host nations (USA, Canada, Mexico) are now 13-2 in scoring in their four games combined.
After that fiasco I don’t think the one goal will be much remembered.
Well, a great result for Canada but a supremely weird game and the injury to Kone is going to be a big problem for them going forward. I hope he’s able to make a comeback from it and it doesn’t permanently alter his career. Really puts a damper on what should be a celebration.
That’s…either amazing or sort of repulsive. I would try it for sure.
I haven’t had kimchi nachos specifically, but Korean-Mexican fusion in general is excellent.
Here’s a doctor’s breakdown of Kone’s injury with plenty of slo-mo at the moment it happened. Honestly, it isn’t that graphic. There’s no Joe Thiesman leg flopping around or bone sticking out. There’s a still image of him after the injury and his leg has a definite bend that shouldn’t be there, but I was expecting worse. Still, best not to view it if you’re squeamish.
The brief summary: the doctor isn’t sure how it ended up broken so badly based on just viewing the replay, but there must have been some forces on his ankle that aren’t obvious from the video. It will be a long recovery, but it shouldn’t be career-ending, assuming treatment goes well.
