FIFA World Cup 2026 - discussion etc

Pretty tentative, both these sides…

Does Korea often wear purple? Really don’t like the Mexico jerseys.

Also, that’s a crazy amount of empty seats for a Mexico home game.

I have heard of that, but never seen a restaurant for it. I’m in Michigan.

I noticed it, too. I like it. Don’t know who decided this would be their color.

Yeesh, no kidding. Shame.

It’s the color of their national flower, the Rose of Sharon.

Wow. A colossal eff-up by the Korean keeper, or the defender, or both.

The keeper had the defender and the ball in front of him the whole time. Either he’s gotta punch the ball or be absolutely sure he catches it and it that means he wallops his teammate, so be it.

That Korean manager looks like he hasn’t slept in weeks.

What a save by the Mexican goalkeeper.

Disappointing result.

If it was a one-goal difference or tie, I’d understand the rushing. Odd.

Given Switzerland’s ranking of 19 in the world, and BH’s likely routing of Qatar, I’d call that more a collapse of totally expected proportions.

Not happy none of my channels are picking up Mexico / SK.

Glad to see my country get its first WC win. (and by six goals - if only we could only play, like, San Marino, Farroe Islands, etc.)
Sucks about Kone.

IMO, it was because Qatar broke the leg of one of their players and they wanted revenge. Also, the guy’s number is 8, so it would have been cool had they been able to score 8.

I humbly submit ‘World in Motion’ by New Order, written for England’s Italia 90 World Cup campaign. Just better in every way.

…although the rap part could’ve gone a lot, er, differently…

Really? You think it’s likely that the combined margin of victory by Switzerland over Canada and BH over Qatar will be greater than 9?

I wouldn’t be surprised if Christian Pulisic sits today. We have competent depth at left wing with Aaronson, Reyna and Haji Wright and can win with them.

But I caution against overconfidence. Australia only had 28% possession vs Turkiye but hit on the counter with speed. My worst scenario is the Yanks dominating on the ball but turning it over in a bad spot and Irankunda running loose on our 40-year-old center back.

Considering a quite mediocre country like Canada could tally six goals against Qatar, imagine what a far superior BH side could do to Qatar, so I wouldn’t put money on the greater-than-9-goals scenario not happening, and I’d put quatloos on at least a three-goal difference in Switzerland’s more-than-probable victory over Canada, especially with no Kone.

Canada is significantly higher ranked than BH in both FIFA and Elo rankings.

Even though Canada played that far superior BH side to a draw last week?

I don’t doubt that the Swiss will beat Canada handily, but I’m not sure BH is that much better than Canada.

As @Snarky_Kong just said.

Hey, don’t exaggerate! He’s not a day over 38 years, 8 months and two weeks! /s

Australia will mostly sit in a low block. Do we need Ream’s left boot in the lineup to break it down? Or do we put someone with better defending in space as a starter, and perhaps save Ream for a fourth-quarter sub in the event of a draw or needing to pick up a goal for a result? Or - what will Poch do? Just stay with the hot lineup?

I think he’ll stick with his captain, but I’ll be on pins and needles every time there’s an Australia clearance.
