FIFA World Cup 2026 - discussion etc

Yeah, that’s exactly what I meant.

I swear there’s something in the water around Paris…

I didn’t say the French team are all going to start passing to him, I mean he will stop passing to them. At least I hope so and that it creates a disharmony in the French squad. Which is usually the thing most likely to stop them from winning the tournament.

Well, sure. That’s why the open-water swimming was so controversial in 2024.

I agree that if France play to their level they’re the best team and it’s not that close. Spain has a better central midfield and yamal. But yamal isn’t much better, if any, than Dembele and the rest of France clears. Same story but worse in any other comparison.

What is that defense doing?!

And now Mbpappè’s #15!

What is Mbappé, Frodo?

Jesus, wrong foot too.

So, you’d think that after winning in 2022 Argentinians would be grateful and not very demanding of the national team… And you would be right, but our culture is our culture, so:

Translation and notes for those who do not speak Argentinian:

Win the the World Cup again or we’ll fucking shot you
Even if you defeat Brazil again we’ll fucking shot you

I don’t give a fuck about Lionel[1] or Olimpo[2]’s number 4
In Argentina, you have to win
Because I don’t know if you’ll get beaten going out of the pitch

The Argentina gang[3] is the greatest ever
Win the the World Cup again or we’ll kill you

The guys all crazy, pickpocketing in Miami
Or away stealing a bank armored truck only to see you[4]

It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of el Doque[5] or of Nueva Chicago[6]
What it matters is that we travel again to see la Selección.

THE MONSTER!!!

Could only find a Reddit post of this clip but the BBC is showing all the games in 3D. It’s a bit weird but you do get this Messi POV of his second goal today. See how quick it is:

So me chupa un huevo is correctly translated as I don’t give a fuck? I’ll bear that in mind the next time that turn of phrase comes up in a high level meeting

Judging by his last ten months he is not as fearsome when he plays for Real Madrid. If you meet him again in the final I recommend wearing blaugrana jerseys, that could do the trick. Messi is already used to them, he could feel rejuvenated.

Exactly, if in a high level meeting the Argentinian says “This project sucks one of my testicles” he means that he doesn’t give a fuck

Bilardo would’ve found a way to do it.

That turn by mbappe was nasty

I keep hoping for some kind of upset against the big guys, but this one looks like France has it under control. Then again, they only scored one time.

Seems like they shouldn’t need a “hydration break” for this half…

Sorry, the ads are already sold.

God damn it, Philadelphia.

The rule is 30 minutes after the last lightning strike so…how long has it been since Mbappé scored? :winking_face_with_tongue:

I don’t know how often this type of thing happens so no idea of what it will do to the players, will it be detrimental because they use up their nervous energy, or will it give them more rest. Tennis players have to manage this type of thing all the time, so they have routines in place when it occurs, not sure what footballers do though.

I have watched thousands of football games in my life, but I can’t remember an extended half time because of a thunderstorm. Doesn’t help that this particular stadium doesn’t have much of a roof, which is puzzling and astounding.
