Fifi woke me up today

Even if you’re not an old pilot like me, nothing else sounds like a 4-engine bomber flying overhead.

I was able to make it to the front door in time to see a B-29 heading north this morning.

Since Fifi is the only one still flying, a quick search turned up this announcement.

I missed her this time, but have seen and flown in her before out of PDK.

If you or the kids have never seen these planes, I urge you to check their schedule, and make an effort to go see them. Our greatest generation is shrinking fast, and these planes won’t last forever either.

Charlotte, NC? You’re next!

Check the schedule at the top of the page for a city near you!

As an oldster who can still remember the sound of B-36’s flying over, I agree wholeheartedly. There is nothing like the sound of big radial engines. I can only imagine what hundreds of them must have sounded like during the war.

The sound from inside the plane is even more amazing. I have ridden many many miles in this old girl, and even have a little left seat time in my logbook. Her generous owner turned over the controls to me on a long cross-country. I consider it one of the significant events of my life.

Keep 'em flying.

That settles it…if and when I ever win the lottery, I’m scouring Russia and China for spare [Tu-4](http://www.abpic.co.uk/search.php?q=Tupolev Tu-4)s.

A lovely beast indeed and a very important piece of aircraft history. Such a shame there aren’t more left.

On the subject of impressive planes, I’ve been fortunate enough on several occasions to see close flypasts of the Battle of Britain memorial flight.

Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster Bomber. Six RR merlin engines at full chat is a magnificent sound.

Cool! It’s coming to Akron!

Nothing sounds like 4 Pratt & Whitney R-4360s! I’ll have to head down to Akron next month to check her our, especially since we aren’t getting an air show in Cleveland this year :frowning:
