Figure competitions.

So I attended Jen Hendershott’s Phat Camp ( http://www.getphatwithjen.com/) this past Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Best thing I’ve ever done in my LIFE. If she’s near you and you’re somewhat into fitness, I recommend it.

Anyhow, now I’m interested in figure competitions and am wondering if there are any figure or fitness competitors on the board whose brains I can pick?

I am not a competitor AT ALL, but that site has some very interesting articles and lots of people who love to share information.

I think this might do better in IMHO.

I’d like to pick your brain. Some years ago I was very interested in such camps, competitions, etc. and got in the approximate level of fitness required, but two obstacles remained at the time: a) the investment in posing coaches, choreographers, clothing, etc. and b) the insane gymnastic ability needed. Seriously, the latter ability required seemed to exceed that of Olympic competitors, based on what I saw at the Arnold expo in Ohio. Is that still the case?

Yes, it’s still like that for high level competition (like the Arnold and Olympia). Jen said she’s spent about $100K over the last 10 years, and for Ms. Olympia, she’s doing 2 - 4 hours cardio, 2 hours weights, 2 - 4 hours gymnastics a day. She doesn’t have a coach, but I’d bet she has a choreographer. And she related one story (when she suddenly got her period on stage during the posing) and mentioned that she was upset that she had ruined her $500 swimsuit.

I’m more interested in the amateur level of figure competitions. There is no way I can afford to spend $10K a year!
