Fill us in on the lost art of protestation

Living in the Bay Area I’ve had the pleasure of listening to the stories of some of the people who were in college at Berkeley and Stanford during the 60s. Maybe I have a romantic notion of how things went, but it seems that many of the protests at that time were pretty well orchestrated, it even sounds as if the organizers would work with the police beforehand to ensure that the needs of both sides were met, that things weren’t too disrupted, etc.

Watching the TV news last night makes me think that some of that knowledge may have been lost.

Do any of you recall some of the general approaches that were used at the time to conduct demonstrations? Was it as organized as I’m thinking, or was it complete chaos?
