Film characters that made you very, very angry.

{{Earth-Shattering KABOOOM!}}

Jude Law in * Closer*

True enough, but most other slacker anti-heroes have some sort of pseudo-charm, or are at least interesting assholes. Hoffman’s character doesn’t have even the minor grace of being annoying in a funny or clever fashion.

This is true. But the soundtrack is just so damn good! :stuck_out_tongue:

Duc d’Anjou in Elizabeth. Not only was he a jerk, but he was a supremely annoying jerk.

Pretty much a standard role for Vincent Cassell, though.

Because Forrest is an idiot?

Well, yeah, he’s an idiot.

But he’s a Hollywood idiot, a holy fool, rather than a realilife idiot. I mean, I can watch idiots doing idiotic stuff all day for free just by looking around the office, why would I want to watch a movie about a real-life idiot?

Forrest is presented as the idiot who always does the right thing as contrasted to smart people who figure out clever reasons to do the wrong thing . That means that it is right for him to love Jenny, because he always does the right thing. Except Jenny is a miserable bitch who doesn’t deserve his love. Which implies to me a scriptwriter with unresolved anger issues towards women.

I was gonna say, everyone in Closer.

Brenda Blethyn’s and Michael Caine’s characters in Little Voice.

TNT has been airing Forrest Gump a lot lately, and I’m starting to question Jenny’s motives at the end.

At first I thought, okay, here’s a screwed up girl who finally realizes the one guy who would never hurt her is the one she’s supposed to be with. But then I thought that she might be finally settling down with Forrest not because he’s her baby’s daddy or because she has HIV, but because he’s very very rich.

I think it was pointed out before on the boards that in Saving Private Ryan, the grave-digging Nazi and the Nazi who kills Melosh are not the same. I thought they were too, but someone was kind enough to post the links to the actors and they’re not the same. Ivylad thinks Upham is despicable, I think Upham was in way over his head and should have stayed where he was, making maps and translating safe behind the lines.

You’re no longer one of my favorite posters.

The character Kathy, played by Jennifer Connelly in House of Sand and Fog. Whining to people that she didn’t open her mail, how was she to know her house was being repossessed, even if she knew that was the consequence of not paying the tax bill which she was too lazy to follow up on? Then Ben Kingsley and his wife are kind to her and she repays them by screwing their lives right up. And then after they are all freakin’ dead she decides the house isn’t hers after all.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH.

Yes. The one person who gets shot in that movie is the one who least deserves it.

Ah, but the grave-digging soldier was in that squad that was taking pot shots at Miller at the bridge, eventually killing him. As Reiben predicted, he was scooped up by his own guys and thrown back on the line.

I agree that Upham was way over his head and therefore, not hateful.
