Lavaliere mikes are relatively cheap - the conference I’m involved with uses them (wireless) for speakers so the speaker can move around. They mostly clip, and you need to be careful to get them centered, since they lose volume if the speaker faces away from the mike. They are better than they used to be.
I was on Jeopardy the first week they started using lav mikes instead of the old style ones. The PA or AD said that it made the sound work easier, and also let the camera pick up the whole face with nothing in front of it.
Back to the OP, there is looping on game shows also. Alex blew a few answers during the shows I watched before I went on, and they looped him giving the right pronunciations to be inserted later. He isn’t as perfect as he seems to be on TV.
