Filming "The Wire" for HBO in Balto

They’re filming The Wire at the marina where my husband lives. When I was up there last weekend, there was some prep work going on, and apparently tonight, cameras are rolling. I asked him if they’d possibly get our boat in any shots, but apparently they’re using the big room in the club house.

I don’t know anything about this show - never saw it. But I guess I’ll have to look for it now. Seems funny, tho - if the series is focusing on the Baltimore waterfront in a story about the decline of the working class, what will they film in a waterfront community where the townhouses start around $300K and some condos exceed $1M??

Anyone seen it?

WAG here, IIRC, the first season has been all about drug dealers in the “projects” and the cops going after them. Maybe the waterfront has to do something with the suppliers?

The web site says the second season has to do with the decline of the working class and it’ll focus on the waterfront and unions. I wonder if they’ll do any filming in the shipyards or terminals.

I started a thread after the first episode, of the first season.

At first I wasn’t all that impressed, but then I started to get hooked and can honestly say it was a very, very good program. I am glad they are bringing it back.

I too read that they were taking the show out of the projects and to the waterfront. If I am not mistaken, I think the last series was taped near juanitatech’s house, or place of work.

I think I read the first set is out on DVD, so you might want to rent it to see what you are in for! (They are also running repeats on HBO, but it might be too far into the series for you to really pick up on it.)

At any rate, I am looking forward to the new season!

And FairyChatMom, be sure to get into the background scenes, wear a red hat and wave to us!

It’s gonna be a little rough to get me in the background, red hat or not. I’m still stuck in Jacksonville till my kid gets out of school.

From the look of the stills on the website, I don’t think I’d blend into the background anyway - I don’t think I’m “gritty” enough. You know, being the dainty flower of femininity that I am. But when I go visit him next week, if they’re still filming, I may pause to check it all out.

I used to pass by the courthouse in which The Wire was being filmed everyday on my way to work. The characters’ offices are located in the basement of the main courthouse in Baltimore.

I know a couple of other people who watched this show during the first season, and they all agreed with this recommendation: If at all possible, turn on your closed captioning as you watch this show.

There was a lot of very important dialogue that was often difficult to keep up with or hear over stuff going on, as well as a lot of slang/jargon/etc.

The characters became very compelling though, and the show just got better and better as the season went on.

Anyone who watched the first season hear if Omar is going to be back? That guy was a great “villian” with great lines.
