I saw Ghostbusters on cable last night, and there was a brief scene through Dan Aykroyd’s special goggles. Also, I don’t remember for sure, but I seem to remember views through the spotting scope in the film Enemy at the Gates. Probably most sniper films will have first person views.
On rewatching Saving Private Ryan recently, which I hadn’t seen since it originally showed, I noticed how well the FPS games like Medal of Honor have imitated the look and feel of the movie. Through much of the movie, it felt more like I was playing a FPS game than watching a passive movie.
During the sniper in the tower scene in SPR, I noticed I was unconsciously twiddling my mouse wheel finger and counting shots. Reload, reload dammit! And if the guy had just circle-strafed his way back down the stairs, everything would have been fine!
