Final Jeopardy and miracles

I have a good one but I don’t know how to do spoilers so…spoiler warning, I guess.

Final Jeopardy category is announced - Live Aid. The one memorable fact I remembered was that Phil Collins flew on the Concorde so he could play at both concerts in London and…New York, I think? Maybe it was Philadelphia. Anyway, I said “Phil Collins”

The clue was revealed as: He was the only performer to play at both Live Aid concerts.

A local TV channel broadcasts Jeopardy 6 days a week, Monday through Saturday. As the show is only produced 5 days a week the Saturday broadcasts are repeats, usually a couple of months old. Sometimes when I watch them I start feeling I’m a genius, answering every question, only to realize oh wait its Saturday, I’ve seen all these clues before.

Regarding the “miracle” of having seen an answer on the internet shortly before the broadcast.

I have had this happen to me several times. I think its because internet surfing is not as random as it may seem. The writers who make up Jeopardy clues are people too, and certainly at least some of them regularly search the internet picking up odd facts. Search engines take popularity of web pages into account when giving search results, and the better ones give more weight to clicks by people who have demonstrated similar interests to you. It isn’t so far fetched that Jeopardy fans get led to some of the same web pages that Jeopardy clue writers visited a few weeks earlier.

And you lose, for failing to phrase your answer in the form of a question. :stuck_out_tongue:

My roommates and I used to “compete” against each other while watching Jeopardy. One of my roommates had obtained our satellite TV service through… questionable means. :dubious: So we had access to feeds from all the different U.S. time zones. One day we were watching *Jeopardy *and I was just killing it, answering almost every question correctly. They were all duly impressed. Then I revealed that I had watched the earlier airing from a different time zone.
