Final Project Blues

Currently, I’m taking a GIS/Remote Sensing class at my university and I fell in love with the ArcGIS software and what it is capable of. I’m assigned a final project instead of a standard written final and what I’m looking for is an idea that is somewhat offbeat from the other ideas I’ve seen done in the past by other students. Everything I’ve seen or read about online is usually about geographic hazards or pollution hazards or green energy, etc. Everyone seems intent on saving the planet with their project.

With this in mind, I asked my professor, “Do I have to necessarily help my fellow man with my project?” He earnestly replied “Not at all. In fact it would be refreshing to see something different.”

If anyone has any quirky ideas to use as a jumping off point, I would be most grateful. The quirkier the better as I’m pretty good at data mining. The only caveat is that my professor warned against taking on anything bigger than statewide as it would become too unwieldy, given the timeframe it has to be turned in. I would post my project up online when I was done as well as the grade.

Some relevant Arc GIS information to get a better idea of what it’s capable of. I’ve checked some of the threads here at the Dope and have seen that some people here are familiar with the system.

Thanks in advance!
