Finally got things squared away after a storm

It’s been a hectic few days. On Wednesday, a massive unexpected thunderstorm came through with winds up to 70 mph. As I was working, I heard the sound of wood cracking.

The old and massive oak tree came down.

But we were extremely lucky. Only one branch hit the house. It punched a few holes in the roof.

Nothing touched the siding or windows.

More luck: a neighbor down the street called a tree service immediately for a branch on their roof. I walked over and had them take a look and they came back the next morning and removed the one on my house. There were a ton of downed trees due to the storm and you couldn’t find a tree service available. We also managed to get in contact with the people who had done our roof. They patched it today. They’re expecting rain tonight. There are plenty of people who won’t be patched before then.

More luck: We lost power for a couple of hours. Others lost power for a couple of days. My brother-in-law didn’t have it until this afternoon. The college where I work didn’t have full power until Friday. People still are without power. (Amusingly, the power company showed our road was without power for two days after it was restored.)

Complicating matters is that we had just put in a new driveway the morning of the storm, so no one could drive on it.

Oh, and my wife had been in the hospital last week for an infection. She came home Monday. (She’s feeling much better.)

Helluva week.

Wow, glad it turned out as well as it did! Hope next week goes better.
