Finally having a car

Alright today marks the first day I drove myself to work in my own car. I’ve got the last 3 and a half years in Atlanta managing without a car, using MARTA and the kindness of roommates as well as friends. It’s a great feeling to finally have my own wheels.

I went to Checkers for lunch! Normally I bring a hot pocket (and I will continue to, I just didn’t today), but I was actually able to go out and get food today!

The car cuts down on an hour and half in transit, a half hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. It’s amazing.

Oh the joy!

Congrats! I’m impressed that you managed 3+ years in Atlanta relying on MARTA. It ain’t the best public transit system around, and the coverage basically stinks unless you never want to venture more than a few miles from downtown. I’m guessing you have A) VERY good roomies/friends, B) VERY strong legs from walking, or C) all of the above. Either that or, as a Tech student, you rarely ventured far off campus.

I tended to find things around the Marta system. If I needed to get somewhere that Marta didn’t take me I’d either get as close as possible and walk it or I indeed would find an opportunity to beg a ride off a friend or family member.

I think MARTA gets a bum rap. The bus system, though not exactly Germanically efficient, would get me where I wanted to go if I wasn’t in a rush. But then again I’m comparing Atlanta to Orlando, which is perhaps the worst public transporation system ever…

Oooooooo!!! Jealous!!!

I have a one-and-a-half-year debt payoff plan so I can get a car. I’m in the same boat you were in, buses/friends/family taking me everywhere. (And I’m in Omaha, which isn’t held up the world over for its efficient mass transit, either.)

Congrats to you! I can’t wait til I have a car. I’m going to drive around for no reason at all. It’s going to be awesome. I’m even keeping a list of potential CDs I’m going to play as I’m driving off the lot…

Thanks for giving me hope!
