Finally! The DNC grows some balls.

Bro, they gave up on class in '94.

Or they could say 'That’s real nice, but the Nobel Peace Prize now means about as much as the World’s Greatest Dad trophy he got from his kids on Father’s Day.

We look forward to congratulating the President for winning a Pulitzer Prize for his laundry list, The Best Actor Oscar for pretending he was paying attention the last time he had lunch with Biden, and the Adult Film Award for the fucking he gave the taxpayer with his stimulus package."

Regards,
Shodan

And Shodan reveals the continuing presence of Obama Derangement Syndrome.

That’s how I see it. Why would anyone be proud of winning a Nobel Prize unless they are proud of whatever got them the prize?

I find it much more unpatriotic to gloat the Chicago didn’t get the 2016 Summer Games, because of course the whole thing was all about Obama

Shodan, your position is that Obama has done nothing to deserve this, right? Have you read the committee’s reasons for giving it to him?

Hey, that’s marginally funny, in a Mad Magazine sort of way! Think Shoddy hired a writer?

Yes, that would be a better way of advancing America’s interests.

Hey, I’m a Democrat, and I criticise the president for accepting this award. Can I get my official “I’ve thrown my lot in with the terrorists” button from the DNC now?

I expect this kind of over-the-top hyperbole from Glenn Beck or Rush, not Democrats, and certainly not the DNC. It is very disheartening to find the DNC saying that anyone who disagrees with the Peace Prize going to Obama (instead of to one of the people who were nominated and actually deserved it for things they had actually done) has thrown their lot in with the terrorists. Thats cretinous nonsense.

The Nobel Peace Prize has jumped the shark, and the DNC is following them to ignominy. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Can’t blame Rush and the Birthers for this one, we’ve shot ourselves in the head and have no-one to blame but our own idiotic DNC.

Grrrr … he had the chance, he could have turned this into a huge win by simply turning it down, but noooo …

Frankly, the thing that annoys me the most about people getting mad at Obama for receiving the prize is that Obama himself has said that A) he wasn’t expecting it nor was he trying to get it and B) he KNOWS he hasn’t done anything worthy of a Nobel yet.

Then he followed up by saying that he’ll do his best to, in his tenure, work to be a deserving Nobel Laureate–which I think is why the looney right is scared (rather than the sane right who joins the sane left in being merely perplexed), because they think this will galvanize the Dems and Obama to be less bipartisan and push their agenda harder.

Actually, I’m curious–has anyone ever turned down a Nobel nomination?

Vietnamese Official Le Duc Tho was co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 with Henry Kissinger. He declined the prize claiming that there was no peace in his country.

Cornell West had an interesting perspective on the award on Bill Maher’s show the other day. He pointed out that giving the award to Obama, as much as it could be considered a carrot, is also a stick.

Awfully hard for the President to continue the policy of rendition and continue to expand the war in Afghanistan while telling people he will humbly work to prove himself worthy of the award, etc.

“The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists – the Taliban and Hamas this morning – in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize,”

As usual, the fools at the Huffington Post woke up and decided that the world was not aware of how fucking stupid they are, so they posted crap like this. And other fools read it.

All that Republicans have done - and quite correctly so - is to point out that Obama was not eligible for the NPP because he had done absolutely nothing to earn it. And for doing so, they are being called terrorists. And this is called “growing some balls”.

We all know Obama did nothing to earn the prize. If he had an ounce of integrity, he would have refused it. But I don’t HuffPost saying anything about that, and I never will.

I suspect the President has several ounces of integrity, the fact that he accepted the award notwithstanding. More, at any rate, than you.

He defeated the Republicans, including Palin. That turned the course on the USA’s threat to world peace.

Absolutely nothing, huh? The Nobel committee disagrees with you, and they have actual evidence, though doubtless you’ll claim that they have a liberal bias because they’re socialist Europeans.

This was a misstep. First, it’s an incredibly trivial issue. Second, it does nothing to make the DNC look better; its only purpose is to snipe at/criticize the RNC. What’s the point?

I’m an Independent who usually votes Democratic (and I voted for Obama). I’m not happy to see either party taking shots at one another. I’d rather the DNC release a statement talking about how they’re going to ensure that meaningful health care reform gets passed, or something that’s, you know, actually important.

Don’t tell me how bad the Republicans are. Tell me what’s so good about you.

Seems to me that they’ve been doing that for years… and kept getting beat by the Republicans in the polls, because the Pubs have been on the attack. And now the Pubs are acting all butthurt because the Dems aren’t rolling over anymore…

That is the point of the DNC, just as the point of the RNC is to snipe at the Democrats. The national committees are a joke; nobody believes the RNC named Michael Steele as its leader to win even a few black votes. They did it so they’d have something to point to when they were accused of ignoring black people.

Similarly, it should be telling that the moment Howard Dean became unelectable he was suddenly a natural choice for the chairmanship of the DNC.

Zeriel, you’re missing the point. People are not mad at Obama for receiving the prize. It was obvious he knew nothing about that. They’re mad at him for accepting the prize.

And so am I. I’m a lifelong Democrat, and I think it was megalomaniacal idiocy of the first order. He could have confounded everyone and gained great stature by simply saying “Thank you very much for the honor, but please give the Prize to one of the other nominees. All of them deserve it much more than I do.”

That would have shut up the nay-sayers, and given the Republicans nothing to chew on. Instead they’re already preparing the attack ads: “Obama got the Nobel Prize … and you got a pink slip.”

But no, Obama was not enough of a statesman to turn down the Prize. As you point out very correctly, “he KNOWS he hasn’t done anything worthy of a Nobel yet” … he knows that, and yet he accepts the Prize? On what basis? What’s next, accepting the Pulitzer Prize for a book he hasn’t written?

That’s hypocrisy of the first order, and is despicable in my book. It is particularly despicable because it denies the Prize to one of the other nominees who truly deserves it, someone who HAS done something worthy of a Nobel Prize. That is theft. He has stolen from them the fame and the money that they honestly worked for and deserved.

Like I said, I’m a Democrat. I voted for Obama, I cheered when he won, and I might vote for him again … but this is the reprehensible action of a spoiled teenager.
