Financial aid for young students

Hello I was in foster care as a minor and am currently working and going to school on my own. I got a small apartment this month and am told there are grants and scholarships for many things, like if you just write an essay and things of that nature. I’ve been looking for financial assistance for foster youth and grants, etc, I asked the financial aid counsellors at school but they gave me a website where only about 7 are available, ( women’s studies, African American clubs,) and you had to apply for them before the start of the semester. This was through the schools website grant tool but there has to be more out there. Can anyone point me in the right direction

Have you tried asking your caseworker if the state has anything you might be eligible for?

There are grants and scholarships for many things, but anything you can “just write an essay” for are usually loaded with so many restrictions that they’re just curiosities. You’ll find them atplaces like this. But prepare to be frustrated. A company I worked for once offered a single $1,000 scholarship for one year to students who could ride a horse AND were majoring in veterinary medicine. We got calls for the next 15 years from people who heard there was free money if you’d ever ridden a horse.

Since you had another thread on this topic just a couple of weeks ago, it would be better to ask any new questions in the existing thread. Since this is in the wrong forum anyway, I’m going to close it.
