Finding a job in the US when you aren't a US citizen?

Hey does anybody know what one would need to do to find a job in the US if one is not a US citizen? I am studying abroad in Hungary and I have a few friends that are looking for work in the US. How exactly does one go about this? Does anybody have any recomendations on where to start? Also does anyone have any idea where to find out whether or not a foreign degree is recognized in the states? Btw they are looking for jobs in finance, preferably something in ibanking, analyst of some kind most likely. btw I realize that these are extremely difficult jobs to find even for US citizens, however, I’m sure any information would be helpfull.

thanks in advanace.

There are several classes of work visas they might be eligible for. By the way, Hungary is not (as of 1999) one of the “trader treaty” countries, so they would not be eligible for E-1 visas.

We have many interns at our hotel from foreign countries. (examples: Ghana, Greece, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, South Africa and Venezuala.

They all said they got the jobs by looking on the internet for international recruiting agencies.

The key is all these interns are only paid $9.00/hr and must sign a 18 month contract. And all have college level bachelor degrees or more.

In other words they are “Slave” labour. But the good thing is they are able to get exposed and every one of them so far has imporved their English so much it is unbelievable.

Two of them (the one from Belgium and the Netherlands) were offered jobs and the company agreed to pay for their visas and relocation etc.

Thanks guys. Sorry it took so long for me to check back, its midterms and I forgot I posted here. Well that doesn’t sound to favorable. I was hoping for better prospects, but I guess thats kind of what I was expecting. I feel really bad telling them they are SOL. I hope there is a little more hope for my GF since she is hoping to move the US next year, but maybe if I get in with a decent firm and make some connections I can see I can find something for her. I hope I can at least manage that cuz 9.00/hr just aint worth it, not when I have the same background as these people and I’m expecting to start in the low 50K range (assuming of course the “recession” hasn’t lowered starting wages :frowning: ) 9 bucks an hour would be a little insulting, I hope I can at least find a loophole for my GF, if not for my other friends as well. Thanks again. I think this damn “recession” is gonna make things a little difficult.
