Hope this doesn’t sound immature or morbid, but is there an easy way to spot the post where a poster got banned and the reason for the banning? I am discovering that the latest post by a banned poster is sometimes posted after the banning.
Questions related to bannings are not entertained on the board. Please email the admins or mods for questions relating to bannings.
I’ll echo xash, but let me add a comment.
The reason for a banning may not be visible after the banning or understandable to the public. There are several reasons for this: For instance, if the reason for the banning is that the person’s second post was a link to a porno site, that post will have been disappeared at the time of banning. If the reason for the banning is that the person threatened physical violence in an email to a Moderator, you’d not see that in their last post.
Sometimes the reason for banning is that supposed member is simply a “sock”, violating the rules by simply existing. So, even if you can see the last post, you would not necessarily know the reason for banning – that post might seem fairly innocuous.
Another reason that the cause of a banning may not be publicly visible is that we want to have some respect for the person’s privacy.
Bannings are always for a gross infraction of the rules – granted, there is sometimes a fuzzy line, but there is a line, however indistinct it might be at the edges. Granted, sometimes the infraction is overt and serious, and sometimes there is a series of little violations and warnings, and the final violation is just the last straw that overflowed the camel’s cup. Er. Whatever.
It would be extremely rare that a person who has been around for any length of time would be banned without knowing the reasons. Usually if someone is skirting near the edge of that fuzzy line, we give them very clear warning, either public or private. If the person skirting near the edge is a long-time poster, we usually give SEVERAL very clear warnings.
All of which is to say that seeing the “last post” does not necessarily give you any clue as to why there was a banning.
We are not trying to set up a structure of jurisprudence here. We do not want “lawyers” inquiring into the exact reasons for bannings. We have neither the time nor resources to fight those kinds of battles. In short, if you’re going to post here, then trust us and comply with the rules. There is a forum for complaint, and those complaints are read and their merits discussed. If you’re not happy with that situation, then you’re more than welcome to find another board somewhere that’s either unmoderated, or pay-to-post boards, or moderated to your liking.
